It would be nice if membership websites are like this...

We humans are prone to completing something. We always want to close the loop. That's why we finish watching the film even if that's not good.

There is always a satisfaction in completing something.

Whenever I buy an info product and esp a membership site access, I have no idea how much content is in there.

If I complete a few lessons, I have no idea how much more content is waiting for me.

So here's my idea...

Each lesson and module should have a checkbox that I can click once I complete learning that lesson/module.

Say there are 4 modules in the course. Once I click the checkbox, a bar in the sidebar or header should show 25%. That would give me a motivation to push through the remaining lessons and reach 100%.

It would be great if membership site softwares can implement this feature. I would like to have such a feature in an info product that I create

Do you like the idea? Would love to hear your thoughts on this...

Noted. I am about to start a membership site soon. You might see this feature for the first time there!

Would like to know how you are planning to implement this. I have come across various membership site solutions and no one offers it out of the box.

If you are gonna make a custom script for that, let me know. We can invest together

It could have been a custom plugin. What we are looking for is a built in feature in any of the membership website solutions already offered.

I agree, I think wealthy affiliate had/has this type of structure, but it has been about 3 years since I was a member, but I think they did have such a structure.

I agree, many member sites, especially with a progressive learning plan, have some way of tracking progress and work completed. Higher end sites often have very flexible lesson plan management.

If you take notes while learning (which you should) you can just record the spot to resume. This way you can even take a break in the middle of a long video and just mark the resume time like: Lesson 2: Keyword Research - resume: 17:45

I DO think its a good idea but if your modules aren't top notch, those percentage bars are going to wind up actually killing peoples motivation to follow through.

Imagine watching a boring first part of a module 1, you see a "25% bar" afterwards, you think "god this is taking so long to complete" and just leave.

So I'd really just make sure all the modules are made to maintain peoples interest, as something like that could also work against you I feel.

That is a good idea. However, it can be just as disheartening as it is motivating!

Imagine working 4 straight hours and thinking you are making great process only to check the box and see 2% show up! Many people would just quite right there.

I agree, good idea but the check points would have to be extremely satisfying (i.e. the member feels that they are truly moving forward and hopefully seeing some results).

I've been a part of several membership sites where it was all about "lesson by lesson, check point by check point," and very rarely were any of them satisfying cause I was never seeing results.

I think the key is to help members stay AWAY from info overload and get them moving forward with action steps. That's when people actually get excited and stick around.

Many RPG games out there use a similar function to keep the user engaged - they call it "levelling up". :-P

If you want to use this, I'd recommend that you start with easily completed tasks first and then slowly amp up the 'difficulty' of completing the bar. ;-)

As always, if your product is junk obviously this won't save it from its deserved fate.

    Cheers,

I already include this in my membership site mainly via my private forum I call it HOLDING YOU TO ACCOUNT and after each lesson they are asked to come over to the forum and post that they have completed the module no matter what that lesson was.

It works very well in encouraging people to take action but it also shows clearly that only a small percentage will actually stick with it which i also noticed on other membership sites I am a member of that implement the same technique.

If this is used it can be very effective because it forces the student to actively show that they have learned and taken action by posting in the forum. Which usually spurs more action, especially if part of a routine.

You can have all the lessons bookmarked and tracked but if you are just reading lessons and not taking action it isn't really any help.

What I find most helpful for video member sites are accompanying PDFs with lessons, summaries and checklists so I don't have to go scrolling through hours of videos to find the name of that tool I forgot to write doiwn...

Yeah, I think this is a good idea. Any membership site should have PDF's that come along with each lesson to help put the lesson into action for the consumer.

Motivation is a big factor in someone completing the course too so I have to say I like the idea!
