I have a Mac, and I made a few short movies with Snapz Pro X that I want to provide to my ebook buyers, so I need to host them somewhere.

Snapz Pro X saved them as Quicktime movies with a .mov extension. They work perfectly on my desktop.

I successfully uploaded them to a password protected folder on Bluehost, but now, bizarrely, all of the video controls - fast forward, stop, rewind - have disappeared from the bottom of the movie screen where they were before.

Ideas? Suggestions? How else can I get movies to my customers without putting them in a public area where everyone can access them?

Oh, and I can't use Screenflow because I have Tiger, not Leopard.

Dana, an option is to upload them to YouTube and make the videos private.

The problem with this is that each video has a limit as to how many people
can privately view it (25) and then you have to manually add each subscriber
for each video, so it can be a bit of a hassle if you have a lot of videos.

As a last resort, it's okay, but you'll probably only want to do this AS as last
    resort.

Dana, have you contacted Blue Host and asked them why they are not showing up? Their support is pretty good and fast!

Bluehost does have excellent support - they helped me upload the movies to the password protected folder.

The movies are appearing - it's just that they are appearing without any of the movie controls on them, the fast forward, stop, and rewind buttons that should be on the bottom of the video clip. I could call Bluehost and ask, I just don't know if it's a problem with Snapz Pro X or with Bluehost.

I'm a web girl, so I guess instinctively I would use different "web methods" to make this work. I'm not quite sure why the movie behaves that way once you put it on the server, but I would suggest you to use either JavaScript controls such as explained on this website:
    userwww[dot]sfsu[dot]edu/~infoarts/technical/howto/sound/wilson.quicktimejavascript[dot]html
or embed your movie in Flash, ad Flash movie controls and save it with .flv extension, then put it on a webpage.

Unless you know how to do these things, you would probably need some help with how to do it, maybe you know someone who can help you with that.
That's the best answer I can give. I hope it helps

Yes, clearly you are a web girl! I envy your technical ability. I guarantee you if I tried this myself I'd break something, but I will consider this as an option; I'd have to get someone to do it for me.

QuickTime Pro can also export to Flash video. I don't know how the quality compares to other options though.

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

    Hi Dana,

Do you want your e-book buyers to be able to watch these movies on a web page? Or do you want them to download the whole video file to their hard drive and play the movie there?

Being a Mac user myself, I wish that Quicktime was the video standard. But many Windows users have problems with Quicktime. If you want your buyers to download the movies, I would suggest that you convert them to MP4 before uploading to your password protected folder. Download a free copy of MPEG Streamclip to do that conversion.

If you want your buyers to watch the videos playing on a browser page, I would encode them as Flash video and embed them in a password protected web page. This is a little more complicated than the conversion to MP4. The least expensive good Flash encoder is Flix Standard for about $39.

Steve W., yeah, that limit of 25 would probably make Youtube not the best solution - thanks for the suggestion though.

Steve Robertson - I would prefer that they just be able to download the videos - I'll check out that MP4 conversion thing. Maybe the problem is the fact that these are quicktime movies and Bluehost somehow doesn't support that?

sometimes you need to adjust the height parameters of your embed code an extra 15 pixels or so to make the player bar show up
