Could this be the Death of Internet Marketing (Affiliate Marketing) Literary??

I've come across an article on webpronews .com
"Internet Explorer 10 First Browser With 'Do Not Track' by Default"

that means the next user who purchases Windows 8 will be using their default Internet Explorer with the cookies TURNED-OFF.

What does this mean for affiliate marketing that solely depends on cookies to track sales and user actions.
even online advertising as we know it.. there will be no way to tell which campaigns are working and which ones are not

the article can be found here (if its allowed to post links on this section of the forum..

Hey warriors.. please give your thoughts on this.. maybe I misunderstood the article.. if so correct me if am wrong..

Most people will just turn this feature on in my opinion because they don't want to login time and time again to their favorite websites.

The cookie option in any browser is a huge time saver, you'll probably spend at least 20 minutes each day if you're going to log in manually to each site.

Mike, Indeed you have a good point..
but this would be practical for tech-savvy web surfers..
I've seen enough people who don't know how to change the homepage of their browser..
you know some of those notorious toolbars that automatically change your homepage and search engine preference.. some user get stuck with those unwanted settings for a while..

so considering this section of web surfers (the-non-tech-savvy) it might take them months before they realize that they'd need to adjust certain settings to remember password - During this time it means LOST commissions for you as a marketer.. just my 2 cents

problem is most people have no idea what Do not track means, OR that it would be on by default.

Also DNT will not stop your affiliate cookies, DNT just puts a cookie on your pc that sends a message to every website you visit "Hey, I would like not to be tracked by 3rd party cookies, advertising networks, retargeting networks " etc... At least that's what it should do.

It is up to the network how they interpret that message because DNT is NOT YET A LAW nobody can TRULY enforce it yet.

That's a good point. But hungry affiliates are going to make sire to place a small checkmark that says something like...

"to proceed lease enable your cookies, check this box to continue" :-)

As long as there's money to be made in affiliate marketing, smart marketers will always find the answer...

    thoughts?

It's really impossible to browse the net without having cookies on - it's not just about logging in and out, many many sites rely on cookies for navigation and all kinds of other things. Even if they are off by default, I could see people getting sick of opting in to them every time they click on ANYTHING, can't you?

Plus, who the *&^*&^ is going to be using Internet Explorer anyway?!
