Amazon for Non-sales Info Sites

I just wanted to share a tip for people looking to incorporate the Amazon Affiliate Program into their information sites. By information site, I mean a site which isn't designed to pre-sell products or doesn't really lend itself well to product reviews. Most often, these will be Adsense sites.

I've had an adsense site (not MFA, just an info site that happens to use adsense) for over a year that's in a good adsense niche, but doesn't really have too many obvious avenues to push Amazon products. I get about 15,000 visitors a month and do pretty well from adsense clicks. I've had Amazon banners on it for a long time and they get about 150-300 clicks per month, with a grand total of 3 sales in over a year (at least one was a laptop, which is completely unrelated to my niche). This doesn't surprise me, as we all know Amazon banner ads don't really perform well.

I finally figured out a way to weave an Amazon link into one of my newest posts. In this post, I suggested that people don't just follow my advice blindly and that they should use more than one source of information, such as buying a book. I linked the word "book" to a relevant book on Amazon. I said absolutely nothing about the book -- no title, no pre-sell, no review.

I posted this article just yesterday morning, and wouldn't you know it, I got a sale (from just 2 clicks on that link) that same day. Just goes to show you that if you can weave a relevant Amazon link into your post, even without any pre-selling of that product, it's a lot more effective than any banners.

Now to see if I can figure out a way to add an Amazon link or two in my most popular articles. . .
