INTERNET MARKETING

I hear that Mike Filsaime is looking to launch Butterfly Marketing 2.0 in the near future ... be interesting to see what he has done to move the whole project forward.

Anyway it got me to thinking about his original concept i.e. the small things we can do that make can make a significant difference to our businesses.

I thought it would be great to see if we can start a thread where we all list our own 'Butterflies' you know small stuff you do that has made a difference and that others can use.

Here is my butterfly ....

Position your list opt in box in the page fold area of your site ... this dramatically increases opt-ins

here's my butterfly, but more like my IM story:

Back in 2005 I submitted a help desk ticket asking Mike if I can "pick his brain" in person one day.

At the time I didn't know how successful he was even then, but had a feeling this
guy was going to be able to steer me in the right direction.

Now fast forward almost 4 years...

To say he "steered me in the right direction" is an understatement!!

He offered to take me under his wing and I ended up being the only person he's
ever taught internet marketing to on a one on one personal basis.

In addition to building a 6 figure business (2 years in a row now), I also was the
first person he took on his team locally soon after he launched his original
Butterfly Marketing.

I now am considered by many, including himself, his Right Hand Man.

(Side Note: I don't usually talk about this because I like to keep my marketing business separate
from what I do for him. But I figured this story would help one person, hopefully a lot more)

Because of what I applied from him, my wife hasn't worked a day since July 15th 2006 and has been able to stay home to raise my 2 babies and another on the way.

I can go on and on and on about how it all started for me but the REAL BUTTERFLY in
this story is that I TOOK INITIATIVE.

I reached out to him through his help desk of all places, but luckily for me the message
was forwarded to him and he actually replied to me.

All I wanted was a cup of coffee with him.

It ended up being a lot more than that.

We consider each other best friends, he was in my wedding party, and I'd take a bullet
for the guy.

Dude played a huge role in helping me get out of the rat race.

I did all the work though (another Butterfly - LOL)

Hope this inspires someone

Combine that with a little bit of luck, perfect timing, and the law of attraction, and that's
pretty much how it came to be.

Everything you need is right here. Just pick someone to follow that you can
identify yourself with, and everything will fall into place

Hey Youngmarketer,

You've come this far and now you want to quit?

You know so much. Just harness all that knowledge you've accumulated
in the past year and put all of it into one area of focus.

Almost all successful people reached a point in their life where they wanted to give it all up.

But the ones that made it recognized how close they were to breakthrough and kept
pushing forward.

You are THAT CLOSE and you can be that confident kid all over again no matter what
you or others put yourself through.

I was such a confident kid with lots of life goals but then drugs and certain people tried to ruin my life. I picked myslef up and headed into the internet for a whole year now, still nothing but I know that if I keep working something will arise, none of this laws of attraction stuff, tried them all, all they are is a hypnotic marketing stunt, better off with the Bible.

So to end this rant, it's either this week or no week when it comes to my online career and I hope it's not the latter.

The difficulties I'm having or as above, the inability to know if I'm headed to glory or back to doom. I picked a niche that is my passion, I try my best to only use my own knowledge and sometimes dip into a bit of resaerch to make sure I've got it right.

So far I've made around $145 in a whole year but that was through spamming people and it's boring, very boring.

Sounds like your on the right track. The main thing is to keep moving forward and to learn from your mistakes. If you can learn from your mistakes, then you are not destined to repeat them. This will keep you moving in the right direction to continue to grow your business.

It takes time and patience.

My "butterfly" was in not trying to do everything. Rich
Schefren's manifesto pointed out how crazy that was
and then I merely had to figure out, what I should
be doing, what I needed to outsource, and what
really didn't need doing at all.

Mike emphasized focus a number of times at seminars
that we often both spoke at, in a way that really
resonated with me. Seminar speakers do learn from each
others presentations... as long as they stay teachable

  For some it's as easy as falling off a log. For others, it's like continually pushing that log up a hill.
  
  Sometimes it's pointless trying to work out why that is.
  
  It's often better to try and understand that there are reasons - (often because the person is having to change themselves and their core beliefs along the way) - but to simply accept that they are having to 'carry a heavier load'.
  
  The one who carries the heaviest load develops stronger stamina - physically and mentally. Those who 'fall off a log' into success often get complacent and fall right back to the start.
  
  So any 'log carrying' you have already done is valuable experience - and from what you have said, this is the case. If you've carried on this long without the rewards and support then you must have great perseverance.
  
  It would help if you could get more support, possibly by finding the ones amongst your existing friends who understand your 'mission' and are supportive.
  
  Perhaps you could offer to help one of them to learn the basics (they only need an $8 host and a domain OR a free blogger account) and by doing so, you might discover that what you see as meaningless knowledge (because it hasn't converted into the rewards you want yet) is actually quite valuable, and without it, many people could never get to stage two.

  I also contacted Mike Filsaime when I was starting out and asked where I could get the background he was using on his site, or if I could buy it from him. I don't know if it was yourself or another 'right hand man' who responded, but the response appeared to be from him, and he very kindly told me to download it and use it - for no charge. I hope he hasn't got so big that he has lost that personal, friendly touch because it hasn't been forgotten here.
