Bonuses: I don't get them...

So I was looking at one offer (ebook).. All looked good untill I saw how much bonuses it had and how much they cost.. The guy asks 59,95 dollars for ebook and like 7 bonuses (videos, updated version of ebook). And then he writes his bonuses are worth like 1000 bucks... I was like, WTF?? Bonuses are worth THAT MUCH and you give them for free?? No, they must be sh.t. Cuz if they weren't you'd be selling THEM and not ebook (you'd use IT as a bonus).. He must have just chosen bonus'es prices out of thin air...

As a buyer I wont go and buy it... something is messed up. It's either my mindset or his product pricing. I'd believe his bonuses are worth 1000 bucks if he gave no more 500 dollars discount.. not 1000 bucks... And shouldn't main product be worth MORE than the bonuses?

So is it an example of bad marketing or it's all good?

I was just posting about this on another thread.

You want to make sure that your bonus does not "reduce" the value by being something that everyone knows is pretty much dated and useless.

Also, don't throw the house at them either. You've seen those offers for a $29 product that is going to give you $1000 in bonuses. Even if the conscious mind really desires the product, the subconscious mind is sending a warning.

Yeah, you gave great advice there. My subconscious really sent me warning.

I'd like to get some "rules" on giving bonuses away.

      Maybe:

      1. Bonuses would be small, like one or few videos that give small tips?
      2. One small ebook with sub-niche if for your product (like "Foods that make you slim" as bonus to Weight loss ebook)?
      3. Don't make them bigger in price then your actual product

Yeah but when people see those bonuses most do not think as you do most jump on it its the impulse buying that him and many others are looking for. Most marketers don't care about those people that site around and read word for word they are more looking for people that buy on impulse the full get up get excited order this and get this as a great limited time bonus. without such an offer you will not see so many sales just one of the ways internet marketing has changed over the years

I'm not the one to read word for word.. hell no.. those texts are too long for me. I just scrolled down the page to look for price (which is incredibly hard to find at times) and saw bonuses.. And it was my impulse to not believe the prices of bonuses, not conscious mind.... So, I don't agree with your view here

I'm not saying that you can't give a lot of bonuses but you have to know how to tie them in with the product.

An example would be if you sold a book about affiliate marketing and then added your report about getting traffic, your ebook about finding great backend products for your affiliate business, and then an audio explaining how to pre-sell.

All of those bonuses not only add value to the original product they also are products in the same niche and sometimes someone reading your sales page actually buys because of one or more of the bonuses. If they are related and not so over-priced to seem unrealistic.

There is a big difference between adding value and coming off as desperate to sell.

A very powerful technique is to take your ebook for $19.95 and add the mentioned bonuses to create a deal at $27.95. Your price is reflecting the added value. Now some people have an immediate thought of wondering if they can still get it at $19.95 which just sealed that price in their minds.

They are no longer debating whether or not it's worth it they are now trying to decide if they want the bonuses included at $27.95 or can they find just the ebook alone.

They might even email you to ask you where they can get the $19.95 ebook.

Maybe it would be better to use ONE of those bonuses in the beginning as a free gift to a possible customer? You give away value for free in order to attract him (maybe works better than long as.s sales page?)

For your opt-in yes. You need to have faith in your product. Don't just give it away unless you are using it to maintain contact. ( the list )

If you don't have confidence that your product is worth what you say it is why should I?

Create a good product and stand behind it. Your job in the sales page is to convey it's value to me not ask me to do you a favor and pay your light bill.

I actually hope that my ebook will be so good and so helpful that it wont need 1 mile long sales letter.. A video and viral method will do the work It will be good for sure though...

I know exactly what you mean. I may be guilty of this myself, bucause on a few products I promote I give away a ton of stuff. But I do this because it is tightly related to the product and it is stuuf I developed myself.

But lately I have gone to giving away smallish 4-5 page reports that I design specifically for the product I am promoting. Now I know a lot of affiliates will say there is a major flaw in a product, but they have the "patch" to make it work well. The trouble is you usually getting a page or two of doggie poo that is worthless.

However, no matter how good a product is, you can usually find some way to improve a tiny part of it. I've found something like that given away as a bonus works pretty well without going overboard. But it really does have to be something that you can explain to the visitor will help them. If it's quality stuff the buyer will be more likely to come back and buy another product later.

My opinion, right or wrong. But as soon as I see someone telling me I am getting $1,000 on bonus stuff I don't believe another word they feed me.

I seen many marketers giving way so manyy crappy bonuses that dont relate to the product at all. I only like bonuses if it relates to the product I want to buy

I have never to this day offered a bonus with one of my products.

My products are what they are and no bonus (at least to me) is going to make them better....

I hate looking at a sales page on something like a PPC product and seeing the bonuses...

      - HOW TO GET FREE TRAFFIC
      - MASTER YAHOO ANSWERS
      - LEARN TO TREAT YOUR YEAST INFECTION

Seriously, it looks like some people just go through their hard drives pick out a couple products that they have rights to and lump them all together.

If I ever do give a bonus I will definitely at the very least make sure that they are relevant.

I can see how bonuses can really help sell some products.

As it's been said, especially when the bonuses are actually
worth something, and they are highly related to the
product you are trying to sell.

I am just getting started out in internet marketing, and
I don't want to offer junk as a bonus just because I've
heard that "Bonuses help sell products."

So it's going to be awhile before I am able to even give
away bonuses with the products I'm selling. Except for
little things, like bonus help videos or free updates for
        life, etc.

I've heard a great way to use bonuses is to swap
products with other marketers (ones they are actually
selling) and give away each other's products as a bonus
on your sales page. This way you can claim how much
the bonus is actually selling for, and build each other's
list (with buyers) at the same time.

I do believe this is the absolute most important rule
        for bonuses - relevancy.

If I'm order a meal at McDonald's and they offer me
a free Ferrarri for buying all the upsizes - I'll think
        it's fake and crazy.

... but I'll still buy for the Ferrarri (even if it's not
        related).

Again, I think it really depends on the bonus. Most
of the time, these bonuses are relevant and desirable
to the people on their own list.

To other people, it may not be desired. But for the
people on their list, it could be the Holy Grail.

One thing that I see a lot of people do when it comes to bonuses that just drives me crazy:

They give you about 50 different things that come "complete with Master Resell Rights, Sales page, etc."

The problem is, they are crappy things that I personally would not buy, so why would I want Resell Rights and a Sales page to try to push them off on someone else?

    Makes no sense!
