Which is better? One time products or membership products.

Which is better? One time sale products or membership products?

Membership products can create recurring commission. Which is great. But usually commissions are a smaller amount up front.

One time products are the opposite. Large up front commission. No recurring commission.

Anyone have experience with using both of these and have an opinion?

I tried selling wealthy affiliate memberships 5 years ago. Didn't sell any but that wasn't because of the membership. I just didn't know what I was doing.

But that got me thinking. How long would a member stay a member?

With wealthy affiliate you need to stay 2 months at least before getting the full course. After that I wonder if people just quit or did they stay on and fight the good fight.

Unfortanately the "make money" market or the "weight loss" market probably doesn't stay very long. I'm not talking about the ones making money or keeping the pounds off. I'm talking about the ones who don't have immediate success and just quit.

The unsuccesful ones are unfortanately the majority. (I don't mean unsuccessful in life just unsuccessful with the goals they have for the product they purchased or membership they signed up for. Don't want to offend anyone out there.)

But even if you sell a one time course or ebook you may still have returns. Not sure what the standard for this is but there are some.

As affiliate marketers our customers need to have faith that this product or membership will solve their problem. They need to know that this time it is different. This time it's going to work.

I've been doing recurring in smaller amounts for years now. BUT I still like to sprinkle in some immediate returns for a bit higher payouts too.

There's no right answer to this as everyone is different. Some want big hits about 4 times per year, others like the stability of monthly income, (even though it does fluctuate).

Such a broad question. It really does depend on what product your trying to sell.

membership by far because you have recurring income and can focus on scaling your profits up to new heights

Why don't do both? It's better to have multiple streams of income rather than just one. Just make sure you promote great products or membership sites. They'll convert better.

It doesn't have to be either one or the other. Do both. I like to build recurring for steady stable income and the larger one off profits for big monthly jumps in income.

I agree with both Matt and Gabriel. There's nothing wrong with doing both. Working on the web, it's absolutely important that you continue to learn, grow and diversify. You can get really good at one thing, (but to use another cliche) you don't want to put all of your eggs in one basket. The web is volatile and always changing. That can be a POSITIVE thing, especially if you like staying loose. If you have a diverse plan, you can switch gears easily, while saving the trouble of one of those "oh no" moments.

Yes....as above, do both. For the one time product, sell it at a price point that is comfortable for your customers and upsell them your meembership.

One thing that I have seen work very well is having a recurring product that's not that expensive. One, it will provide for a better residual opportunity and two you will probably have more people buying because its cheap. Also, you can use this method to actually up sell people later.

While again, it really depends, membership is probably a better way to go overall if you can offer some form of service that they will continually need. It creates instant passive income.

    Hey Trafficlandslide,

It really depends on what you want.

Recurring membership means recurring income, but also can mean recurring work for generating content for the membership area.

One time products you only have to create once, but you only get paid once for them.

There's no reason you can't have a mixture

    Hope that helps!

One time sales product could be sold easier than membership product.

Just look at all the Best-seller WSOs. Each of the product is One Time Sales Product. There's no membership product in there.

If you would like to launch membership product, your product must be so valuable, so people would like to subscribe the products.

Also, look at ourself... How much membership product that we buy? Hosting membership? anything else?
