How to do Ezine marketing for a newbie?

I went ahead and got the Directory of ezine for ezine marketing with articles, but at first glance it appears not to have as many ezines for my niches compared to the ones I found using the free methods. So this can only mean the ones I found are no longer up to date or they are not really ezines, or the DOE is not updated since their new site makeover??
I only found 3 ezines in the pet category for example.

Do you think its worth putting any money into showing ads on other peoples ezines, I see alot of ezines offer this, or do you think I should just go for promoting my articles?
Alot of ezines seems to use an ad agency named arcamax, have you used it with success?

What is a good plan of attack for a newbie using the doe?

Sincerely
Karl

It really depends on the list. Some ezines are hot while some are shyte. You just need to test.

Writing for free article directories can work really well if you're signature link is done correctly and your content is targeted. I won't describe that here since there is a ton of information on it out there. But if you use Ezine Articles (or even if you don't), their suggestion emails are extremely helpful and give a ton of really good advice on how to market using the written word. It's good stuff.

      Hi Karl

Congratulations on taking action. Those ezine publishers certainly will be receptive to receiving relevant articles if they have indicated this in the DOE. In my marketing, it has never been about the quantity of potential publishers within a niche, but rather the quality of resulting traffic. The idea here is that readers of pet ezines for example are a targeted audience, resulting in higher conversions for pet products than most other sources of traffic.

You should read some of the archived ezine articles, then query the publishers with one or two of your articles (with resource box) as part of the email. Do not send articles as an attachment, unless the editor replies with such a request. Consider also placing ads in other ezines within the DOE that could be remotely relevant to your products. Some publishers offer a free ad if you subscribe to their ezine.

Ezine article is place where people looking for information, do provide useful information to attract the crowd and once they like your articles they will revisit your article over and over again.

It seems some Warriors have got a little mixed up between ezine marketing and article marketing on Ezinearticles...

I believe Challe77 is referring to putting paid ads (solo ads) out to ezines, which are simply mailing lists that run a newsletter for their members. Correct me if I'm wrong Challe77.

So, with the confusion cleared up, have you had a look for other directories of ezines? Also, it's worth mentioning that you can actually write content for people's newsletters. It works like Guest Posting does for bloggers and it means you are offering unique content for the newsletter reader to use, while getting a link to your own stuff. This means you don't have to pay them to feature you or send out a mailing for you, as you're contributing to their newsletter. It's more time-consuming but it's also free advertising. Kim Roach talks about this strategy on her blog and in her traffic products.

Also, have you contacted people on forums in that niche who are building a mailing list? Just a thought...

I think you just landed on a very unique niche. Continue using it and adding content, even at Ezine Articles, and you will reap the benefits, especially in the long run. Correct me if I'm wrong.
