Spam from known Warriors

It really makes me sad when i keep receiving e-mails from Warriors that i was on their e-mail list and have unsubscribed months ago.

I have purchased some products and opt-in in their e-mail list to receive all the updates, affiliate promotions etc After a while, i got to unsubscribe. Because i got too tired from the almost every day e-mail i kept receiving.

I won't tell who that marketer is but he/she is very known in the Warrior Forum, with lots of posts and truly i used to admire his job.

Now when i receive that e-mail which says "Dear friend" instead of "Dear Dimitris", it makes me sad. Really sad. I opted out for a reason, mate....

Just wanted your thought on this. Has anyone else noticed something similar?

Dimitris

Report the list and the person, simple as that!

Contact his/her email auto responder company and explain to them the situation. There is a zero tolerance for spam, especially since you opted out.

I get these sorts of emails from other non-warrior marketers (I don't remember their names).

You subscribe at first for some updates and news, and then after a while it becomes extremely tiresome with the everyday $0 value spam in your inbox.

its actually quite likely you were on more than one of his lists. You may have opted out of one of the lists, but not the others. AR systems are pretty good about handling unsubscribe requests.

Yeah, this happens some times. But honestly, because it got TOO annoying, i got to unsubscribe from every list that he owned.

And he wouldn't keep sending me e-mails as "Dear friend"...since i had opted in with my real name...

Not using your name doesnt mean anything. He could be like me and collect the name on certain forms and not all of them. So he is just using "friend".

It might be beasue he changed the autoresponder company. The best way would be to ask him what happened. It might be because the list was getting filled with spam mails. Or it might just be a technical glitch. Also the name you get is a simple name token. No need to take it this seriously.

Indeed, is bad to receive emails even though you have opted out. And not only that but still get messages with a removed <first name> and be handled as "one of the other guys" like you do not matter...

Sorry to hear how you are being treated, it sounds like this is a matter of principal and you are right to post it.

The best way forward, or the way we have dealt with this over the years is a bit old school...

1 email for ALL your WF purchases/genuine upgrades
1 email for ALL your WF subscriptions to updates/offers/junk/spam

Add a filter to folder rule, so that the purchase/upgrade to softs etc emails are never in the same folder as the emails like:

"Dear Dimitris, we know you un subscribed, but we are going to carry on winding you up and send you junk AFF links and hops to your email until you succumb and buckle, by buying more stuff of us!"

Failing that, a touch of reverse marketing always works a treat...

ANSWER one of the spam/unwanted emails and simply say

"Hey, can you put me on your JUNKWORD from their email list as I am REALLY interested in this, please EMAIL me at THROWAWAY EMAIL address, with ALL FUTURE updates/junk etc etc"

Obviously you do not say JUNK but you get the drift!

After that, simply report them to RBL and bosh, not only do you not get any more junk, they loose a lot of BUSINESS by being blacklisted by root ISP mx mail servers

He probably has 2 autoresponders, so you've opted out of one but not the other.

As for the name field, your reaction confuses me. Unless you think he hand-writes thousands of emails to his subscribers, you must realize he is using an autoresponder. Knowing that, I don't see how you can have such a problem with him/her using your name.

Personally, I don't even collect first names when I'm list-building. In the past I've had people in non-IM niches believe I was writing them emails by hand, and it resulted in some very strange replies. Now I use "Dear Reader," or even "Hi," and try to make it clear in my emails that I'm emailing a list. It is less effective in terms of profit per email but more honest, well I think so anyway.

Generally I don't agree the first action is to report people as spam in this situation. First you should email them and tell them they are acting like a tool (if you think they are). If they really were doing something bad because of greed, pointing it out to them could get them to change their ways. Everybody needs to be told to stop being greedy or a pest at least once in their life. If it is some type of technical glitch then you may be helping them and yourself by pointing it out.

Last of all, and something to worry about, I've seen another type of highly illegal spam over the last year. Where someone emails a particular niche list they have scraped together, then sticks a famous marketers name in the from field (I've seen a few like this). This is because of a fundamental flaw in the email system, where the only way an email provider knows what the from field in an email should contain, is because it reads the text that has been entered there. Just think of those fake PayPal emails that appear too be sent from PayPal's email address. Well this is being done more often now in other niches.

Dimitris, I understand what you're saying.

But I think if you get annoyed at that, your day will be bad and you will not be productive.

    So, smile and delete.

    Have a nice day,

Of course i don't think he hand-writes thousands of emails to his subscribers, i know how the autoresponders work. I also have used one The problem is not the use of my name. The point is that i have opted out from ALL of his lists and still keep getting the e-mails.

Anyway, it is not worth so much, after i thought about it, to make me sad. Either you contact the person and try to figure out what has happened or you keep on with you work

Have you actually contacted the person directly?

If they don't respond, then you have every right to start bad mouthing them and reporting every email as spam, a single click if you're using gmail.

Perhaps even showing them this thread where lots of people are bad mouthing the tactics will open their eyes to how badly the "email marketing advice" they have been following is going.

Your worried about that, they probably have just copied and pasted the email list for what ever reason or moved it to another in a long line. Wait till they start swapping it out and selling it off and your getting emails from all sorts of people you have never heard of.

It does not let up, but slowly over time it gets a little better. One of the better tips I have read on here ( from a clever warrior ) is in the name do not use your name but the service or name of the email gateway, that way every time you hand out the email it is branded to the source.

It wont stop the dear friend, but goes a long way to help sort things if you suddenly start getting wayward emails in your inbox.
