I think adsense is a great way to get your feet wet. Lauching your own product is awesome if you have any hobbies that you know a lot about, like fly fishing or big game hunting.

If you like me don't really have any of those areas of expertise I think starting off with launching your own product is a bit tough.

Starting a blog and growing an online presence is probably also a great idea.

It all comes down to a few basics

    1. have a great offer
    2. a proven market (people who are proven and willing to buy offers related to yours)
    3. A way to reach that market (my favorite way is with paid advertising but there are free ways to.

In internet marketing terms all this means is

    1. have a product or service of your own or an affiliate product
    2. make sure there are tons of searches and existing products for whatever it is
    3. make sure there are plenty of websites to advertise on

These principles are the reason I am so successful not only in online business but in any business I am a part of. As long as you use these principles you can't really go wrong

    Hello flatbro94,

You should consider building a list, it's one of the most stable business models you can enter. I have totally ignored this model for the longest time and it's only recently that I fully understand the business wisdom behind it. I never knew a guru who doesn't have a list. That alone would tell you that it is an excellent and stable business model.

I would suggest you start out a blog documenting your progress and journey in Internet Marketing. This should get your feet wet. You can also acquire some friends along the way.

    Go Get It,

    Romi

i think u ll feel my advice something crazy, bcs marketing is in my Blood. I like to share and grasp new money making idea.

In my opinion, as a newbie you first visit the marketes, analyze them and then think here wht is for you!!

Then whatever you understand, get mastery in it.

Now come to the second turn, i.e Finance ,here u ve the two ways, one means you already 've enough money to invest and second one you dont 've money to invest.

you know i also came along second finance way, i lauch my service first (Mentioned below in Sig.).

To launch a Product as a newbie is not a good decision, i think!!

  • If I were to start over...

*I'd do some intense research on my chosen niche.

*Then research some keywords I can try and dominate.

    *Then set up a blog.

*Set up a decent funnel with affiliate products

*Write some high quality content relating to my niche and post it on the blog, then syndicate them to authority sites.

*Set up some PPC ads leading to my funnel

*Go on forums related to my niche. Start posting and building relations with other members.

*Get on social media platforms and connect with other people within my niche.

*Start doing videos relating to my niche. Syndicate them through social media.

*Once the list has grown a little and got some commissions off my affiliate funnel, I'd invest some money on outsourcing some SEO.

*Once the blog gets some decent traffic, I'd load the baby with some adsense.

*Finally, I'd come up with my own products and membership sites - at this point, I'd already have a sizable list to trial and test for feedback.

If I could do it all over, I would have concentrated more on adding content instead of conducting SEO tactics at the very beginning. Link baiting is a great idea if what you're contributing is meaningful and readers find value in it.
I would also have concentrated more on on-page optimization, without it, there is no sense in conducting off page optimization.

If I had to start all over again:

I would stop thinking like I'm trying to become a guru or a successful internet marketer. The goal is to use internet marketing as a tool to make money to create freedom, options, and choices for what really matters to me.

I would always make sure I had a fire under my butt and knew where I was going.

From a place of extreme motivation you simply choose one of the first things you see that looks good and ride it to your destination. If along the way you find a better ride, then good, ride that if you do your opportunity cost and it's worth the risk. But remember it's all about the destination.

I would start with adsense and focus all of my efforts on that. I would cancel all email subscriptions and spend at least 2 hours per day on Keyword research, site development, article writing, article marketing and backlinking, in that order. I would not visit any section here in the forum except this one and I would not focus on anything else for 90 days. If at that point I hadn't replaced at least half my income from a job, I would ask somebody to look at what I'm doing and tell me where I'm going wrong. If I couldn't get it figured out, I would move on to something else, but you have to work hard and give your site time to move up.

My main aim would be to build a list as quicly as possible. Why, your list is a product / Asset on itself.

When you have a list, I mean a responsive list the sky is the limit. You can promote your own products and other people products as an affiliate without the need to spend more money driving traffic to your site...

This is a great thought to always revisit. We discussed this issue many times before on the old forum (and I'm sure new one as well).

Old forum is here: The Warrior Forum - Main Discussion Forum

We had a contest back in 2008 to win a copy of Traffic Secrets in return for responding how you'd "start over" had you had to in Internet Marketing. Although its from 2008, its still, very, relevant today.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/contest.pdf

Download this PDF. I highly recommend it.

My personal recommendation is on page 9 of the PDF. I still stand by it (and subsequently won a copy of Traffic Secrets from that post).

If they didn't know a thing about the internet then having them jump into Internet Marketing sounds silly. I'd spend weeks training them simple information about HTML, CSS, JAVA, Flash, Photoshop, web searching, etc. In the meantime for ANYONE to make money (regardless of skill level) I'd have them go down to the local hardware store, pickup some black paint and some stencils for all numbers (0-9). Then go door to door asking people if they'd pay ~$10-$20 to have their street number painted on the curb in front of their house. Quick way for anyone (especially someone with no internet experience) to generate some money in the shortest time possible.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creating an Online Business For the New Internet User in 5 Easy Steps!
Created Exclusively for Allen & John in the "Traffic Secrets" Competition

Instead of giving a man (internet newbie) a fish (short-term profits) and feeding him for a day, we must give a man (internet newbie) a fishing rod (key to long-term profits) so he can feed for life (GOLD!)

    1) Starting With a Plan

Before entering any endeavor, one needs a plan. Making money is no different if you wish to be EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT at it. In business, we call this a "business plan". You can take tons of classes, and read hundreds of classes on how to "properly" write a business plan... but if you aren't seeking venture capital (or partners to invest with you) then this doesn't really matter. What matters most is a simple scribble of where you are... and where you want to go. Even the most successful people have business plans. Writing your goals and plans may seem silly now but I assure you in time you'll look back and realize it's effectiveness as it keeps you on track.

    2) What Should You Do?

The most effective way to make money online (and we'll assume you want to do it "online" since... well... YOUR ONLINE) is by selling a product or service. They seem like completely different worlds but actually a product and service aren't too different from each other (both require you to find customers and sell to them). Don't try to think of what will be the most lucrative, but yet what you have a PASSION for (a hobby, a sport, a language, a subject from school, etc.). For instance, if everyone tells you "write articles" yet you absolutely despise writing... don' do it! It will show in your writing (and thus in your quality of work) if you have absolutely no passion for it.

OK, lets say for this example your passion is horses. But wait... how can we SELL horses online and make money? Well, do you ride horses? Do you ride well enough to teach others? But how can you teach others how to ride horses online...? It's easier than you think.

    3) Creating Your Product

Now that you have your true PASSION figured out, how do you go about creating a product? Especially one as "weird" (for online selling) as "how to ride horses"? You might think that you need to write an eBook (since so many others do it... it must be the way!). But just as I said earlier, even if you aren't proficient in writing... you still have hope. In fact, in a unique subject area like learning how to riding horses... staying away from writing may actually be beneficial. In this example I'd recommend video tutorials (but anything can work... pictures, drawings, audio recording, writing, etc.). Assuming you have an easy technique for beginner riders it'd probably be best to SHOW them rather than talk them through it (especially since again, they are beginners). Since you aren't there to physically show them in person... do the next best thing! Show Them!

... and you thought your summer part-time career training neighbors how to ride horses only encompassed your neighborhood didn't you?

    4) Marketing Your Finished Product

Now that you have your finished product the next step is finding your customers. Given the market of horse riding you'd want to search for horse related websites. Find people generally interested in horses that may find your information useful. I wouldn't recommended targeting the advanced horse jumping and competition forums (at least to start) as these people are unlikely to jump on a beginners training guide to horse riding. However given the fact that people spend thousands on horses, hundreds on saddles, and thousands on other horsey accessories... you'll be assured there is a market for your niche. Start talking to people in your area of interest about your new product on different websites. Even let some people try it out for free so you get some real life feedback. This will help you fine tune your product while also giving you testimonials confirming the usefulness of your new product (which you'll add to your website!).

While doing this you'll want to also setup an e-mail list (also called an autoresponder or mailing list). You can sign up for an account at services such as aweber.com. A e-mail list will give you access to past and potential customers. Use this list to simply give a couple of small paragraphs with tidbits every month or so. After awhile of enough useful content you'll find this list to grow on it's own if you follow step 5!

    5) Becoming Gold

OK, so you have a couple sales... you have the testimonial... the product is the best it can be... now what? To become "GOLD" and truly MAKE MONEY you need one thing above all else... TRAFFIC! If you know how to get traffic then great! If not then there are a number of sources to obtain traffic like buying campaigns from AdWords and other PPC campaign sites, or buying LOTS of traffic from sites like traffictaxi.net. You need to be careful when buying traffic because costs can add up quick. Watch your sales as you spend money on traffic. If you aren't making any return... you might want to backtrack and before spending too much more. Obviously this brings up the next point. Rather than paying for it, why not get it for free? Actually that turns out to be even more effective most of the time. Because with your free traffic you usually have the most control over and thus it is highly targeted (meaning the people coming to your site are more likely to buy). A great place to think about getting free traffic is from sites like facebook.com, myspace.com, and twitter.com. Setup an account telling a little about yourself, befriend a couple people and give some free information about your passion on your profile (NOTE: your passion, NOT your product). You *DO NOT* want to come off like you're selling people at the start. First you want to give people a feel of who you are. Once you've established that trust and "connection" you can then invite people to join your free e-mail list for free tips. Once people are on this list (that you setup in step 4) you'll easily obtain new customers.

Most likely you won't generate the amount of traffic you need from sites like facebook.com, myspace.com, and twitter.com. If this is the case you may want to really start downloading some free information online for traffic generation... or if you want to get serious about your business: hire a traffic or SEO consultant that can really optimize your site, give you some traffic tips, and really start generating a heavy TARGETED stream of traffic (aka buyers!). Well what if you can't afford a private consultant? You may want to look into products put out by heavy hitters (aka traffic consultants) that really know all about traffic. One all encompassing traffic product is Traffic Secrets by John Reese (who recently released v2 in July of 2008). This product will keep you up to date with all of the traffic tips you need to keep your website ranking high, pulling in the visitors, and MOST IMPORTANTLY making you sales!

To all your success, I wish you the best of luck! Remember... When people realize THEY TOO have something important to say, well, the money just comes naturally.

    Thanks,
    Brian

It absolutely would NOT be product creation.

Until you can prove your ability to find a
market and sell to it you have no business
    creating product.

    Next -

People tend to think from this "small" place -

Fiverr? Adsense? I don't want to offend
so I'll simply say this -

Different models offer different levels of
income potential. The greater the income
potential, the greater the skillset needed.

Do you want to develop $5 skills?

You need skills, period. And not the kind
1000 other people out there are willing
    to offer for $5.

Decide where you WANT to be - don't
react to what the pitchsters are trying to
    sell you on.

If you have some REAL experience with
selling and marketing then translate that -

If you don't, then one way is to get first
hand real-world experience by working for
    someone producing real results.

Affiliate manager is a great place to start
because you'll see who REALLY makes
money and how - and you'll build relationships
    in the process.

The problem with the "if you had to
start over" question is remembering what
you didn't know, that you now take for
    granted.

Webinars are a GREAT way to make money,
but would that be a GREAT place to start?

Hell no - not unless I already had VERY
GOOD sales skills, and when I started I
didn't. Selling with webinars takes a
considerable amount of skill and connections.

So there you have it -

    X

Although I agree "X" I do think marketing $5 skills for a newbie to be valuable. Not in the "hey lets drop our full time income for this $5 skill" type mentality, but more for the mindset that the first sale and "break-through" feeling it gives. I find internet marketing or marketing in general as to do 99% with mindset; more of a struggle with ones self, and pushing ones self to achieve more.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6386379].message }}

I agree with you on mindset Brian - it's
everything - it even trumps the greatest
      skills.

I'm just VERY careful of the mindset I
      develop -

Because when one hangs out in these
low-rent districts one can begin to think
that's all people will pay - one's intrinsic
      value can become defined, especially
when they don't initially succeed at taking
      a step up.

It's the same mentality in the WSO market -

I see people falling into this undervaluation
trap, and I say "Proceed with extreme caution"

My thinking is it's healthier to be the low guy
on the totem-pole, surrounded by people at
      the top of their game.

I'd prefer to see my sons grow up and be a
lowly intern for Trump, or Gates, or Buffet,
than to own their own hot dog cart on a
lonely corner. There's nothing wrong with the
cart, mind you, but each option can take one in
      a very different direction.

Always like and respect your opinion Brian,
even if we don't agree completely. This is
really a good exercise to think about what it
would be like, now, to be starting again.

All the best to you -

Granted I'm in my mid 20's, but just imagine if I knew what I knew now back at age 18 or 19.

    1) Pick a market that you are passionate about.
    2) Read a ton about it until you are knowledgeable.
    3) Create a good free resource
    4) Create a squeeze page to give the free resource away in exchange for visitors' name and email
    5) Drive traffic to your squeeze page through paid media.
    6) Email your list with relevant valuable tips and with offers.

I would NOT go into SEO. People get excited because SEO is always touted as "free" but that's NOT true. To be competitive in SEO nowadays you can bet your behind you're going to invest money into blog networks, link building , etc. Plus you're going to be spending your TIME.

I would spend that time and money on paid traffic. It's more easily scalable, measurable and you get immediate responses.

Plus in my opinion, SEO is kind of like gaming the system. You're basically trying to trick Google in a way. And I don't know about you but trying to trick a billion dollar company as a way to make my income is not something that'd let me sleep well at night.

If i had to start again, i would try to do something to keep a permanent connection with every visitor i get through different channels. Some time ago, toolbars were a great way to gain that exposure, today it's not a good alternative.

I would have invested in a genuine, proven coach to provide me with the short cuts and a road map on what steps to take..would have saved a lot of time vs. trying to figure it out on my own

Focus on one project at a time. I think this is the most important thing.

If I restarted Internet marketing I would go with the list building method. To me it seems like the most sustainable, reliable, and satisfying business model in Internet marketing.

With this method a lot of the focus is on creating valuable content for your subscribers as opposed to selling all the time (there is some selling of course).

Building a squeeze page is also relatively easy once you know how to do it - and learning how to do it is not too difficult either.

Through what sources you want to make money is mostly irrelevant, but how much effort you are willing to put into it.

If I could restart I'd only change to the following:

Work smarter and harder then I did when I first started.

Any business venture takes work so I would definetely recommend list building.

You can get paid over and again once you have taken time to build your list and it is a sure fire way to becoming a trustworthy person within a chosen niche.

Once you know what you are doing, you can literally set up a campaign in just a few days and start driving traffic to it straight away.

    All the best my friend

I would start by building high quality products and give them away for free in order to build a huge following and a large list of potential customers. Then you can start converting on that traffic by selling more high quality products and/or services like coaching.

If I was starting again, I would have started with product creation.

But in saying that, if it wasn't for my early experiences - I wouldn't have unique products to make!
