You should monetize immediately. Why work to bring traffic to your website and give away free information?

You should decide how much money you want to make as a goal and then figure out how much you need to sell so you know how much traffic you need and what conversion rates you need.

Set goals around each of those. How much money. How many sales would that take? How much traffic to get that many sales.

So if you are selling a product that makes you $40/sale and you want to make $120 a day, then you need 3 sales a day. If you bring 100 visitors to your day and you convert 3%, then you hit your goal.

Yes, just monetize your website from day one. But if you want to see money rolls in, you need traffic minimum 150 UV/ day

You need more than 1000 visitors per day if you want to really make money online, but it’s hard to send traffic to your website because there is a fierce competition in all fields. With a few hundred visitors you will make money only sometimes - if you are lucky and if your products are really good.

Getting traffic is the biggest battle for everyone online, and converting this traffic into buyers, another big battle.

    Nothing is simple.

You should sell something from the beginning, have banner ads or whatever from the beginning, but nothing will work if you don’t have enough traffic. You have to especially collect email addresses from all visitors so that you may market to them later. Offer a free ebook in exchange for their email address and the permission to send them messages.

This means that you need an auto-responder. This is indispensable.

You need a lot more. Your website must be attractive and have a smart design that will send your visitors to your sales pages.

Keep studying internet marketing and working, and you’ll get there.

I also suggest you to monetize it from the begging, you might earn just a few bucks before you drive traffic to it, but why to loose them? As soon as your traffic increase, your earnings will increase too.

It depends upon how much your niche pays and how much each of your customers is worth. For example I have a affiliate site for a physical product where I get a decent commission per sale and it is a real product that real people want. The traffic is nothing to boast about (30 uniques per day...) but I make a decent some of money out of it at the end of every month. I have got another content website in the "Pregnancy" niche which is monetized through Adsense. That does much less in revenue with atleast 10 times the traffic.

So you need to take a call when you want to monetize your content, blog or website based on these parameters. For the sake of clarity here are a few things you might want to consider

    1) Value of 1 customer in your niche
    2) How much is the customer willing to spend (influences point number 1)
    3) How targeted your website or content pages are

At the end I would suggest just give it a shot because everything I told is theory for you and until you have your own set of data to analyze these won't be of much use.

    Good luck!

Well, Its not easy always, because traffic of a website doesn't depend on one thing, it includes many things. So if you want to get relevant traffic on your site, then you should go for SEO.

If your goal is to make money online, monetize immediately. As was said earlier, why use your time driving traffic if you aren't going to be compensated?

If you are putting in the hard work of giving your visitors valuable quality content, why not be rewarded for your hard work?

There are also ways to monetize your site without having to sell or charge visitors for anything...
