Hi

I've just signed up to Craigslist and posted my business.

Has this method been good for your business online/offline?

Thanks

I had promoted my web design service through Craigslist and Backpack. I got pretty much leads. I think you should advertise your business through Craigslist. It's free, so it's nothing to lose.

It's free traffic and free possible leads. But it's a free service. I haven't gotten much out of Craigslist for my mobile notary service. Have you listed your business in the Yellow Pages?

You're about to find out! Be sure to track the traffic and leads and then assess effectiveness after 1/3/6 months.

For my experience, it's definately workable
I got traffic from it every day, though it's not very much
As you know, it's free, so try, buddy ....

I have not had much success with Craigslist, but it may be niche. I think the responsiveness very much depends on what you happen to be selling...and of course how well you pitch it!

I know a local woman who makes a very VERY nice living setting up ads on Craigslist for small service businesses such as:

    home fencing
    landscaping
    painting
    etc.

She acts as the answering service and gets paid by the lead....It's really ingeneous how she gets them...All she does is harvest all the mailers and postcards that she gets from them at her home and just calls them up and offers her services....Very slick and very profitable!

It can definitely generate traffic for services or small businesses. It can also be used to find people looking for work if you have legitimate work that can be done from home to advertise. You have to be careful with that one though. I've used Craigslist pretty successfully to advertise on jobs for freebie sites.

Craigslist is a very good opportunity for small businesses to gain some extra exposure. They work really well for local businesses where the customer and the seller can meet to discuss the deal (though its not absolutely necessary...). Litherland for your kind of business this would work really well if you could use local county names in the title and target your ads to specific counties. This will get you laser targeted leads who are looking for your services in a particular geographical area.

Craigslist has been hit or miss for me depending on what I have been advertising. I would give it a few shots, try tweaking your ads and see which one works best for you. Craigslist can be really awesome with the right ad and product or offer.

This is very interesting...I had been thinking about selling on Craigslist too. I didn't think I would have any luck--but a lead is better than nothing!
I may even land a writing job!
I'm totally going to give it a shot.

I think it depends on location and your niche. For weight loss, I never thought I would get the leads but I was wrong. I posted once and within 5 minutes I had 3 people actually CALL me...

It all really depends on what your business is. In general, people on Craigslist are REALLY cheap and have to deal with a lot of spam - so don't think it's going to be as simple as slapping 50 ads on the site on waiting for your million dollar check. However, if you are creative and can find ways to put yourself in front of your targeted customers, it may work out nicely for you!

    Hope that helps!

Craigslist can definitely bring you traffic, but if you want it to really work I think it's important that you have an image banner of some kind.

I'd outsource the work on Elance and get a professional looking ad created that you could post into the Craigslist classifieds. Having one of these would further your brand image and would probably increase the amount of click throughs to your website.

Craigslist is great but also very very fickle.

If you can get your ads to stick, you're in the money. (Potentially).

Craigslist can help a person get a few clicks daily, but it clearly it is not the best method to build a business.

I invested a great deal of time placing ads on Craigslist, and as soon as I started making money, Craigslist closed most of my accounts. Or my ads stopped showing up.

A much better way to build your online business is to put up a wordpress blog.

    Write and submit articles

Do keyword research to find the best customers for your products or services

To me Craigslist is the best way to get instant traffic. You can track your traffic and see where your sales are coming from. Then ramp up to post in more locations.

I once got a $7,000 web design project off of Craigs List.

It was enough to make me keep using CL. But there can be long droughts of nothing in between those big jobs.

And some of the people are quirky. Some have been scared into only dealing with locals. So you have to dance around that if you want to score outside your local area.

But you never know... setup a system and work it a little every day, but don't base your whole business around it.

I feel the same way about Google...

Weather you do well on CL or not depends on a number of factors, most importantly - the type of business you have.

I post about 50-100 ads per day for my own marketing service and the leads that I generate are the best leads I could ask for. The leads are warm, and they are ready to buy. Being a good closer helps too =)

Craigslist should be a mandatory part of your overall marketing plan.

Results vary depending on what you are marketing and what niche, at least they have for me.

I don't just post on Craigslist, but on multiple classified ad sites, if they are appropriate for the niche.

Just make them one of your classified ad sites to use, they are definately worth the time invested.

Craigslist is definitely best for startups. But you also have to bear with the personality of the people there. I have trouble with people who want webdesign for 50$ for a work of 400-500$. Apart from that it is a great place.

Hello, I read some of the replies here. if you are not getting a good response on Craigslist, it because you are using it wrong! Cl is very effective, but you have to be willing to put in the time and energy. Remember, it s free of cost, but will require your valuable time.
    Tips:
Write at least 10 to 20 different ads and save them on your computer. Label them add number 1 thru 20
Create a rotating schedule for ads. The schedule should include the date, name of the market city, the time of day you r placing the ad, and the ad number used.
The key is to place ads every day, at different times of day, in every market you can (or any markets that apply to your business)
Craig's list has markets all over the world. The ads have to Be completely different, because cl will bump your add if it feels you are repeating the same thing you already have active. If this happens, de-activate your previous days ad and then post your new ad. Try more than one category. Vary your headlines. Make sure any links you post are working properly. Post photos, people like to look at pictures!
Include testimonials. If you put in the effort and hours, you can get free advertising!
