Whats more important....

Ok folks, genuine question for you all.

I've been giving away an ebook on my site

(Which I can't link to as yet)

And its been quite successful, driving alot of traffic from Forums and Social Media but here is my dilema.

I have another 50+ ebooks that I intend to give away but im trying to work out whats more important.

Currently to access the other 50+ ebooks i'm asking for people to sign up.

I've had a few but not as many as I'd have hoped.

So, my question is, what is more important.. More traffic to my site and the potential increase in sales from other areas by making it all non sign up

or

Less traffic but more targeted and slowly building a list ?

What do you think

Why would one strategy result in more traffic than the other?

    Here's what I recommend:

1). Stick with one niche and make sure that your e-books and emails are relevant to the niche, and what the user wants.

2). Create a page for each book. Do your keyword research and create compelling copy with SEO value that makes the user need the e-book.

3). End each page with a call-to-action that allows users to access the e-book by signing up for your email list.

4). Organize all your e-book pages with a clear and simple site architecture.

      Hey, thanks for the reply

Because some people are put off by the fact they have to signup for something to access it.

      2) I have created a master page that has links to individual pages, I am constantly tweaking the SEO to try and bring more traffic in, but finding that the "signup" page tends to be a big drop off page.

      3) That actually might work.. how would i go about setting the access up for that particular folder etc ?

      4) Yep done that too.

Thanks again for your response, very helpful .

Out of interest, why are you not selling some of the ebooks?

Also, once people sign up, are they being directed to an offer? Do you promote offers to them?

The problem with giving away so much free content is that no one has the time to read it all. People only want enough information that they can use, more than that is excessive and will overwhelm them.

dconjar is right with his plan, but I can't help feeling that you should stick to one niche and then create products and offers on the back end. No one makes any money purely by giving away free stuff... There has to be a point where someone buys something.

I'd just configure it so they're emailed a link to the e-book immediately after opting in. Probably no point in restricting access. Just don't give them the link until you have the email.

James brings up a good point... What is your monetization strategy? The ideal way to bring people in ultimately depends on what you're selling.
