How to avoid a Paypal reversal when selling domains

I have read many stories of fraudsters buying sites and domains with Paypal, then lodging a complaint with Paypal, they get their money back and get to keep the domain.

I understand that if the Paypal is link to to a credit card that is stolen, well their is not much you can do as Visa is taking it from Paypal, I am not really talking about that.

I was thinking of maybe recording the transfer, the problem is, many people say online that Paypal will just do the requested refund. Any tips please, it will help.

    Don't use paypal when selling domain names. Use Escrow.com or another escrow service.

    To wire abroad, escrow.com charge a $60 fee, put that on top of the commission's/fees for the sale, many times the cost will be more than the sale !!!!

    I would like to clear out hundreds of my domains and micro sites, I am just worried that Paypal will be abused.

    With something like www.2checkout.com which take (about) a 5% cut and people need to put in a credit card number, I feel this would help. Any opinions?

      No domain that costs less than $100 is even worth buying at all.

        Wow ... so much for the entirety of my domaining business!!

        The comment above is actually completely mistaken: the reality is that there are large numbers of people buying domains for reg-fee, or little more, and selling them for many multiples (to put it mildly) of that amount. I happen to be one of them, myself, and I know many others.

        By the way, this thread's from 2012 ... just saying ...

    doesn't sedo offer their own escrow service as well? its been years since I've purchased or sold domains through them but they were very helpful.

    Sedo it's fantastic for that. Selling domains through PayPal is 100% risky. Wouldn't do that. Never.

    Sedo min is 50 Euro commission / fee.

    Totally impractical for me. I am looking at a credit card payment processor, if the purchaser can't get a Visa debit card, then oh well, to bad.

    collect the proof of that's your domain and all the transfer process.
    If the buyer reverse, you can follow paypal to undo that.

    you need a middle man like an escrow service or domain broker site. Paypal is way too risky on that stuff.

    Unless you are selling many of these domains off for very low cost in which you are willing to accept the risk yourself. But if you want to be protected, it costs money...there is no way around that.

    But Sedo/Escrow accept Paypal so I don't understand how it is safer than a direct Paypal transaction?
    What prevents buyers to ask Paypal for money back after they sent it to Sedo anyway?

    Unless you really trust them, use paypal.

    If you don't trust them, use sedo or escrow.com

    Also depends on how much the transaction would be.

    Use PayPal for small transactions and Escrow services for large transactions. There are many scammers online, and when doing business with someone, there is always a risk, that's why, you should try do business with reputable and trusted members.

    Never use PayPal when flipping or selling domains or websites, especially when we're talking of big amounts. I am yet to hear from my two friends, who are into the domain and website flipping/selling business, that they're using PayPal. They do use escrow.com.

    I never use paypal directly on flippa or sedo. I always use escrow. I never sold a domain lower than $500 though.
