Awesome Free Traffic Method that you can implement today!
I inadvertently ran into this little traffic generating method that has really paid off and wanted to share it because it is so easy, and yet, so easily overlooked.
I have this site where I had a "boxshot" for a product. The product did not have it's own boxshot, so I created one with one of my half dozen box-shot and graphic programs (gimp probably). This was a couple of years ago.
Well, what happened was that other sellers, affiliates, etc. copied my boxshot and direct linked it to their site.
But now I don't advertise that product anymore - but I see in my "Wass UP" stats that I am getting several hits to this boxshot image all the time, and then the link goes to my 404 error page. But because it is an image link only, all that happens at the remote site is a blank box.
Sooooo.... Some eyeballs are looking at that image. All they see is a blank box... So what I did was make a graphic that shows my SITE URL! and named it the same as the boxshot.
Now, I know some of you have figured that out already, but for those who have not, now the image shows your URL - yeah, its not a clickable, but there it is and traffic does get generated from it.
