Tips for more opt-ins

Hello warriors,

I'm pretty new to IM. Wondering if any of you have some good tips for getting more people to sign up for the 'free info' opt-in on my page.

I've been reading like a man possessed lately, about all things relating to IM. But, I've yet to find much useful info on opt-ins other than "lists are good".

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Try to get TARGETED traffic to your squeeze pages. If your list is for I.M. then you need to focus on getting traffic from people that are interested in IM. How do you do this? Making a signature hyperlinked to your squeeze page is a great idea. Just remember to add value and to be a helpful person, not a spammer or you will get banned. You can also build a blog about your IM story and direct the traffic from there to your squeeze page, and you can do a bit of article marketing. Personally my favorite way besides forum marketing is Squidoo. Read about making a squidoo lens and create it about your niche.

You could also try giving something away for their trouble. PM me and I'll give you some info on getting a product to give away. It's really cheap and you can give them away as your own. I just noticed that you don't have enough post to PM yet so I'll just PM it to you.

Thanks to both of you for responding.

@jivens: I have been using web 2.0 sites (including squidoo) and social media to drive traffic and I think it's fairly well targeted. My question was more about design. For instance, is it better to have your opt-in box near the top of the page or below the fold? Should I try and make it flashy or is it better to be subtle about it?

@birddog200: Thanks, I did get your PM and that's something I hadn't considered. Certainly worth looking into. Thanks

Repeat your CTA. Have calls to action above the fold, right below the content, and possibly elsewhere on the same page.

Use spacing and contrast to your advantage. Make your CTA stand out. Put all your emphasis on it.

Orange is the best color to use for CTA buttons. You can use mozilla- and webkit-specific CSS keyframe animations to add a cool glowing effect to your buttons, which in my experience improves the conversion rate. Best font colors to use for buttons are white and blue.

Use directional cues to guide the user's attention to your CTA. Photos with the eyes pointing towards the CTA and arrows work well. The nice thing about arrows is that even complicated, curved arrows with gradient backgrounds and shadow effects are easy to create with pure CSS.

Use images to convey ideas, but avoid using images to present text. The one surefire way to improve conversion rates is to split-test everything constantly, so you want your text to be actual text.

Use clear and concise headlines, descriptions, and copy. Focus on the benefits. Copy is vastly more important than design. The design should be designed to serve the purpose of the copy.

Give something of value to those who opt-in. Make sure they know what they will receive for signing up. Kindof hard to think of a good freebie without knowing your niche but a free report or e-book are both good ideas.

Dont make the squeeze page ugly looking and dont add any links which dont need to be there.

Hire somebody if you need to.

      That's awesome! Thank you.

Haven't ever looked at solo ads, but I will.

And, yes, the opt-in box makes it clear that they get a free ebook for signing up.

Thanks to all of you. Looks like I've got work to do

Use solo ads to send traffic to your squeeze page. Solo ads gives higher opt-in rate than any other type of traffic. For list building, solo ads will be the best method.

Do you have a squeeze page up?

Drive targeted traffic towards your squeeze page. You
want to focus on conversions and your optin rate.

Grab a book on copywriting. That's going to help you
write a much better squeeze page.

This is what is working for me:

    1) Really SIMPLE opt-in pages. Less is more.
    2) Ask only for their email.
    3) Targetted traffic: don't be afraid of using paid methods (sometimes it's cheaper than free traffic methods).
    4) This one is a little controversial: from time to time use single opt-in. Test it, see if it's worth the "pain" on your niche and with each traffic source.
    5) Use the photo of a good looking person that doesn't look like you took it from iStockPhoto. Better if it's your own picture. So, place the pic on your opt-in page. I use mine, cause I look cute :-D (LOL)

    Hope that helps!

Contrary to popular belief, less is not more. In fact, it's the exact opposite of more.

Seriously though, keep it simple. Clear. Concise.

If you want to see an example of a simple, well-designed, high-conversion landing page, look at whatever 37signals is using. The case studies on their blog are worth taking a look at, too.

If you want more opt-ins on your squeeze page:

        1) Make sure your free offer provides visitors with real value, also make sure it has a quality picture to go with it (like an eBook cover design)

        2) Put your opt-in form above the fold so that visitors see the form as soon as the page loads without having to scroll down the page.

        3) If you want to build your list really fast then buy Solo Ads. You buy Solo Ads from people who are willing to send their mailing list a message on your behalf about your squeeze page and your free offer.

        4) Generate traffic through free methods for a more long-term solution.

What niche are you targeting, and is it something you are passionate about? The biggest mistake people can make is choosing a market based on profit.

Start a blog about the topic and get at least 2 opt-in forms in place - top tight and bottom of every post. Also make sure that what you're using as the lead magnet is something that people in your niche actually want.

e.g. In IM another report promising instant results is pretty lame, so make this the best you can.

Others have covered the basics for you main squeeze. Simple one page site with big opt-in box and a strong headline that explains everything in < 5 seconds. Adding a picture of yourself will build trust, and avoid the use of blind salescopy.

Over deliver on what you promise, and just use your personality when broadcasting and following up.

No matter what niche your squeeze page is in, there are a few important things to remember if you want higher conversions...

      1) Always put your opt-in form above the fold (so people don't have to scroll down the page to sign up).

      2) Have an image of your free offer next to its list of benefits. If you have an eBook to give away, either create a good looking eBook cover yourself for free at myecovermaker.com (no affiliation on my part) or outsource the look for an even more professional look. You don't have to sign up or anything at myecovermaker.com, just click "start here" in the middle of the page and you will be given a few free options of eBook covers to choose from. Great resource if you're on a tight budget.

      3) Have some compelling copy that jumps off the page and captures your visitors' interest and makes them want to join to get the fantastic free offer you want to give them!

      4) Apply the K.I.S.S. slogan when building your squeeze page. (Keep it simple stupid). Don't try to impress visitors with your intelligence - tell them what you have, what it can do for them, and what to do now.

Want to ask you few questions..

    1) Do you know how to build a lead capture page
    2) Do you know how to set up your autoresponder code in your lead capture
    3) Do you know how to ready your follow up message for your leads
    4) Do you know when to send your follow up message and when to send your sale message..
    5) Do you know how to build relationship with your list..

This about 5 question is really important before you think of any business..

If you don't know how to build a website or lead capture page than learn it today than go to the next one.

Don't worry about marketing and so on, once your base is ready than you can learn about marketing and so on..

So make your base ready first for the market..I hope this helps..
