Live Case Study - Building an Amazon Review Site One Product at a Time

Okay all...

I've gotten several requests for sample sites to demonstrate how I build my own Amazon review sites. The intent of this thread is to step you through the process that I follow from beginning to end.

The steps that I cover will include:
  • Niche Selection
  • Domain Selection
  • Ultimate Product Review System Installation
  • Product Identification / Selection
  • Review Creation
  • Site Promotion / Backlinking
As I progress through each step, I'll either post a description of what I did or even a video when warranted. My intent is to "stick to the script", meaning I'll follow my normal routine as closely as possible.

Keep checking back to stay on top of the latest developments. Hopefully, I haven't piked a dud niche. I guess we'll see.

    I don't promote Amazon products (I promote other affiliate products), but I do hear stories of people banking pretty well with Amazon. So I'd be curious to see how you go about it.

    For this project, I've chosen a niche that I only have a passing knowledge of: Home Improvement / Power Tools.

    Power tools seem like a good choice because there are always new ones coming out and they can be somewhat expensive so I can see folks searching for reviews before buying them. Although I'm by no means an expert on power tools, I am a guy that does lots of DIY project so I'm sure I can fumble my way through it.

    The domain I've chosen is tzonetools.com.

    Alright, it's getting late and I'm a bit tired but I want to at least get through the installation of the WordPress and Ultimate Product Review System before I call it a night.

    I started the WordPress install a few minutes ago and it just finished. Now that I've got WordPress installed into the root of my domain, I'm installing the Ultimate Product Review System, which is what I use to format my reviews and create the content.

    Before installing the back-end system and theme, there are a few pre-requisites that have to be installed:

    Well, that didn't take long. The three prerequisite plugins have been installed:
    • All-in-One SEO Pack
    • Custom Field Template
    • Custom Post Template
    Now, I haven't configured them yet. I'll do most of that tomorrow. I'll finish this evening with the install of the Ultimate Product Review System.

    If you visit the site right now, you'll see it's just a bunch of "Hello World" posts. That will change in the coming days. I'm gonna call it quits for the night. I'm tired and the forum seem to be acting up a bit.

    My To Do List for Tomorrow:

    Wouldn't this be best done on a blog? I don't think regularly updated case studies are meant to be in the forum from past comments by the mods (for obvious reasons).

      What are the obvious reasons? I've posted here because I've gotten several requests for such info. Posting to a blog somewhere doesn't reach the members here who are asking for it.

      EDIT: Just did a search for "case study" and the results turned up 9 pages with many case studies listed. The mods don't seem to have any issues with them.

    Case studies are ok as long as it doesn't come off as journal blog and from new members.
