Total noob needs advice on IM

Hi everyone I just joined the forum. I've heard a lot about internet marketing lately and since I'm unemployed and have nothing but time I figured I would try learning and hopefully in a couple of months I could make some money off of it.

I just have a lot of questions about it and have no idea where to start. There's just so much information online it's sort of overwhelming. Basically I'm looking for a good system or several systems which I could set up for little money and which could eventually allow me to make some passive income and allow me to work whichever hours I want to. I dont wan't to get into any kind of pyramidal scheme thing and there seems to be a lot of this in this internet marketing business. I want to be able to do something that genuinely helps people and to provide people something that they actually need.

I don't possess any marketable skills or knowledge which anyone might be interested in, is this a necessary thing to have to be able to make a legitimate living online? I have no skills per say but I have a LOT of time and I'm extremely motivated, I want to get into something where I can work my ass off as in 80 hours a week and be able to reap proportional reward. I don't have too much cash to get started, do I need to make a big investment?

Anyway in short my main questions are:

1. How do I learn internet marketing?
2. What are the best ways to make money online?
3. What kind of monetary investment to I need to make to get into this?
4. How do I weed out the scammy systems from the good stuff?
5. Can I make it into internet marketing if I have no skills to monetize (I intend to learn programming).

Anyway those are my questions. I realize there's not much value gained from answering the questions of some guy online so for anyone who takes the time to answer this, thank you so much. I'll give you all thank yous for what it's worth Cheers.

  • 1. This forum is a good place to start. But there is still a truck load of info here and you still need to narrow it down. It all starts with picking a niche and doing some keyword research regarding that niche. I've been told that 'The Challenge' by Ed Dale is usually good to start. Look it up - I haven't done it myself, but I hear that is one of the popular places to start learning from zero.

    2.
I can list some ways -
    *Affiliate Marketing
    *Adsense
    *Blogging
    *Freelancing
    *MLM
    *WSO's

(I know this is very brief, but shoot another reply and we can get into more detail about each. There are also more than this, btw)

I wouldn't say they are the 'best' ways (no such thing) but they are probably some popular ways.

    3. It really depends. There are a lot of people who have succeeded with zero (or even negative) capital, but I reckon a good few hundred bucks should be a decent start with almost any venture (a portion of those few hundred bucks would probably be spent on a course or two learning something).

    4. When you come across a 'scammy' system or one you think seems 'scammy' - search for it and their reviews. Better still, ask some of the members here about it as some of them here are very good at identifying scams.

    5. Yes - but you do have to learn them eventually. I started with no skills too, but little by little, I learned what NOT to do in my marketing, haha. Skills are important but remember they can always be learned. And the most important 'skill' to learn in internet marketing is.... (wait for it...)... marketing! Above all else, make it a priority to learn marketing skills (of course, there are different types - PPC, SEO, Articles, Social Media, etc.). It is, after all, internet marketing.

I tried to keep this as brief as possible so you dont get too overloaded, but I hope it gives you a bit more clarity.

Welcome, AnarchoPanda, this is where you want to be.

You've already figured out what you initially want to know. That puts you head and shoulders above most people who have recently become unemployed.

You have the opportunity to make your unemployemnt the most important thing that has happened to you. You can plan out your life as you would like to live it and make it a reality.

As Michaelangelo says, pick out a niche. What are you interested in? What would you like to know about? Chances are there are others who want to know it too, and you have the time to learn it and tell others about it.

Youwill want to really enjoy your niche, so i should be something you can be interested in for a long time tocome. But it's no big deal, if you find out after a while it is not for you, just pick something else. One thing at a time.

You already have made one good observation, passive income is a very good strategy. If you pcik a niche and figure out how to begin developing a passive income stream, it will be an excellent initial approach.

Continue to ask qustions on this forum. You will be happy you did.

      1) Yeah..this forum is a good place to start. Just try not to learn too many stuff in one time. You'll get confuse and overwhelm. There's a lot of method to do internet marketing. Pick a method that interest you and work on it.

      2) It depends on your interest. As a newbie I would recommended you to start with Amazon affiliate marketing. It's one of the easiest method to start making money online.

      3) The great thing about internet marketing is that you can start out with very little to no investment at all. There are many free method to do it. You can try using free website like Squidoo/Blogger to start with.

      4) As Michaelangelo said. Always ask for opinions here before you buy/join anything.

      5) Yes you can. There are many ways to make money online other than monetizing your skill. You can sell what people want with affiliate marketing. I intentionally didn't list all the methods as I don't want to overwhelm you with too many options.

Feel free to look around in this forum..and don't be shy to ask questions. There are many nice people around here who are readily to help you.

The clearer you can get about what you want and how to get it the faster you will get there. My best advice to anyone starting is this:

If you really want to make it online persist be patient and stick at it. You will get there if you are determined and persistent. The WF is a great place to get advice.

    Hi Anarcho

Welcome to the world of IM.

Good questions you've asked. You can protect yourself by getting a coach. Whilst there may be initial outlay of money in his or her employment, they will save you money by avoiding 'shiny objects' syndrome as well as delivering targeted actions, which delivers speedier success.

As you move forward, it's then up to you to put the skills you learn to use. A mentor helps...
    • Kick you up the backside
    • Review your goals
    • And plans
    • Re-focus your actions
    • Provide a supportive shoulder

Might be a worthwhile investment? Don't get me wrong...you will get there, but after how long and how much spent on unused products on your hard drive.

Whatever you do...I wish you every success!

    Llwyddiant!

If I had to start over from scratch, I would focus on building a list and marketing affiliate products (while possibly working on creating my own product).

One thing that you must establish is how you are going to get enough eyeballs in front of your offer to make money...a lot of people come online & think that if they build a website or blog people are just going to magically show up and buy stuff.

It doesn't happen...so you have to have a plan to generate targeted traffic to your website (I recommend building a list with a squeeze page).

Also, make sure you participate in affiliate programs that allow you to leverage your time & efforts into the maximum amount of income possible. Depending on what you are selling, it can take the same amount of work to make $1,000 per month that it does to make $10,000 per month, so make sure that you are involved in a high-leverage affiliate program in order to make the most money possible from your efforts.

What I'm really getting at is that you should setup a system that pays you like a business, as opposed to a "job."

This is spot on and exactly what I am currently doing, The first paragraph about building a list through a squeeze page is vital and should be your first 'mission' This forum is the best and perfect place to start for sure. You will learn a lot here. I have.

Personally I would take one item from your list and ask a specific question about that item, you can always start a new thread for a new topic but at least you can focus on a topic.

    I hope this helps

Wow thank you everyone, I didn't think I'd get so many replies, you guys are really helpful. I just realised I didn't have access to the Thanks function yet but I'll be sure to come back to this thread to thank you all when my post count is high enough

So as I said I'm a total noob at this, I don't even understand how Affiliate Marketing, Multi-Level marketing, freelancing and all these other things work so I guess I should read up on it as much as possible before starting. Michaelangelo suggested 'The challenge' by Ed dale. Do you all have other recommendations to make? I'm looking for something that explains clearly what IM is all about, how it works and how I can make money off of it. Feel free to link me to your own Beginners guide if you're selling something of the like.

joefizz suggested a coach and I'm curious about this. I don't imagine that a coach would teach me about how to get started on this when I'm completely clueless about IM right? I should first figure out exactly what I want my niche to be and have a marketing plan before getting a coach am I right?

Again, Thank you all so much

    Cheers

Affiliate marketing through email marketing is a good way to go if you are a beginner.

Affiliate marketing is when you promote and sell someone else's product and make a commission off each sale.

Email marketing is when you promote these affiliate products to your email mailing list. To build an email mailing list you must first build a one-page website called a squeeze page (very easy) that offer some free incentive (like a free eBook or report) that visitors will get when they join.

After visitors join (or opt-in as it's known in IM), they receive their free gift sent by your autoresponder (automatic email sending software).

Eventually you will start promoting those affiliate products to your list. You will collect commission off each sale you make.

There's lots of info about this in the Warrior Forum. Members also have a lot of free information you can download as well if you need...

I too was given a unique opportunity to devout myself full time to IMing (unemployment due to mass layoffs). I dabbled before, but I made the jump to full time when I became unemployed. Just be aware that overnight success is for lottery winners (who usually end up just as poor as they started but with more headaches). So while I highly applaud your decision to pursue IM, don't let unrealistic ideas dash your hopes or your wallet.

Systems that promise instant riches are usually just enriching the creator of the system. If the course promises $1000 in 60 days, ask yourself if you'd still buy the product if you only got $500 in 120 days, because their results won't necessarily be your results, even if you can get your money back on the course. If your paying to learn IMing, personally I would pay for someone willing to coach you, so that you can ask them questions, there are plenty of great coaches out there. Or ask questions here on the forum.

Also, if you try to find a niche involving something you love you will have a lot more motivation. It is just way easier and more fun to do a website about contemporary cello musicians or motor-cycle repair than say credit repair. How many articles could you write about credit repair before you lost your mind? If you love what you do it will show, if you are bored then your work will be boring also.

If you've ever tried to search Google or Bing for something you want and got frustrated with not finding it, there's a good possibility that you may have just discovered a niche market (just be aware that not all markets are BUYING markets, some markets spend more $ than others).

Hi. I wanted to give you a heads up on something to keep in mind. That is a mastermind group can be useful - look for one with really helpful members, who arent resistant to the idea of helping newcomers . I know there are some, but you'll have to search some and compare.

    FORUMS

I know there is the Clickbank Success Forum which is quite helpful- it helped me out, when I was a member. There is also a helpful forum run by Dennis Becker. He's a good guy ! Just some ideas - you can google Dennis Becker.

I have heard of Ed Dale, and think that might be worth yr time. Basically, if you can do this internet marketing thing part time (and funnel some $$ money into it over a period of Time), that is a good approach. And be patient with yourself. There is much to learn. It will be a process.

If you can write articles, well, you can find some work at fiverr and other similar knock-offs. There are many "clones" of Fiverr.

    You may be underestimating yourself.

Most people are sitting on "acres of diamonds" - they just haven't figured out how to monetize their experiences, their knowledge, their point of view.

Even your opinion has value if you learn how to properly monetize it.

But if you really are a "total noob" then it's going to be a challenge learning all you need to learn in order to replace your income fast. You don't have months to waste on trial and error.

Since time is of the essence, I recommend getting a life coach, business coach, or some kind of coach who can help you take stock of yourself and get you on the quickest path to cash.

Do it now, while you still have money, before you spend it all on get-rich-quick schemes and desperation tactics.

Congratulations and welcome to the Warrior Forum - there are lots of great people and support for you here.

Thanks so much everyone for all the replies. I think I'm gonna take some of you guys' advice and get a coach. It's sort of hard to get the proper motivation when you don't really know what you're doing. Is there any coach on here that you guys could vouch for? And for the coach that replied on this thread do you guys have some testimonies from people on the forum I could check? Thanks a lot

    Cheers
