With up to 75% of started product checkouts started and then abandoned, I am looking for some software recommendations (free or paid) to help with this.

There is a product on the market from a company called SeeWhy that is ideal for this but they only deal with eCommerce sites with a turnover of over $1M per year (count's me out!).

It works by saving the data entered into the checkout form in real time and also following up by email in real time if the checkout is abandoned.

Ie Someone starts the checkout procedure and enters their first and last name along with their email address, which are the first form fields on the page, BUT then abandons the transaction for whatever reason.

The software has saved the data entered so far and when abandoned, sends a real time email with the first one along the lines of - "whoops, was there a problem and how can we help" type. Then follow-up emails on a timed basis maybe 3 days later, then 7 days etc etc

It also knows if a customer goes back and completes the purchase themselves, probably through a cookie or similar, and stops sending emails accordingly.

I know these emails are not opted-in but I think the benefits outweigh the cons.

I know you can try and get a opt-in pretty quick on your site and do something similar with Aweber, getresponse etc but anyone know of a software that works on the method above?

Anyone using similar on their site?

I can tell you for tangible products, one of the biggest causes of shopping cart abandonment is when the visitor learns how much shipping and handling will total. Other issues I've seen are not providing clear obvious information as to price, and the appearance of security issues. I know you wanted info on a specific software, but I thought this might be useful anyway.

I agree with Bruce's comments above, be sure you have a software problem before you go down that road, get some feedback from others about what the issues are before attacking it. Good luck

Security is definitely a big concern here. Make sure that your site reassures visitors that security is important priority. and it actually should be.

    Use trusted certificates.
Use trusted shopping cart solutions or even better outsource a cloud shopping solution. It will take off lots of headache.
Create a privacy page stating that there are no private data collected.
Provide a seal of security for your site (constantly security audit your site)
    Gain clients' confidence!

Thanks for the advice above and these are all things I have taken into account in the past.

Regarding shipping & handling charges - all are free and that is heavily emphasized so people should know the full price prior to starting to check out.

However, no matter what - there is still a HUGE cart abandonment on ALL Ecommerce site (not just mine!) and I think the software above is a good way of helping with that. It won't solve all but even if it wins back 10% that's better than nothing!

Now I just need to find the software......
