Is it possible to run WordPress and Joomla in the root of our website?

Hi,

We are running a WordPress website in the root directory of our website - but we would like to add Joomla in the same root directory as WordPress. Would this cause any problems?

    Hi,

It is likely to be a big mess at the very least. Then you'll have the two .htaccess files conflicting, as each CMS has its own redirection rules, and that's just a minimum. This doesn't look like a good idea to me. If you wish to create another website at the same location you’d better put it in a separate directory, then maybe create a subdomain pointing there...

Do you use Facebook ? Then you can make money just by inviting people to a Facebook group ! It's called the Instant Income System. How cool is that?

I'm no expert, but at the very least I would think only one could ever show as the home page as you would have two index files and one would take priority.

Why do you want both at the same level? What are you hoping to achieve? Visitors will only be taken to one or the other anyway.

Why not create a subdomain or folder that hosts the Wordpress/Joomla, at least they are enclosed within their own environment.

I don't know how it is possible to display two separate home pages at the same time - the host would have to display one or the other. Yeah - I would definitely make a sub-directory for one or the other.

For one of my main sites I use Joomla! on the main domain, and then install my WordPress blog in a subdirectory, which I link to in a Joomla through a menu link.

I know how you feel though as Joomla has the flexibility & control that I love, yet WordPress has the search engine friendly links, blog options and templates that look so hot.

Hopefully Joomla will work on making their core script to use search engine friendly links so it can compete better with WordPress. Don't quote me on this but I think the last I heard, Joomla is installed on about 3% of all websites, while WordPress is installed on 14% of all websites if I recall correctly. It sure would be great to not need to use both...

Both are great platforms - best wishes in your hybrid solution!
