How to advertise an affiliate program

Hey guys, I'm new here so thought I would drop a question. I am currently working on a affiliate program for a survival website at work. What are some good ways to advertise the affiliate program and some features and/or ideas you could suggest to make it run smoother. This is pretty much our first ever affiliate program that we've used, so I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks guys!

How much competition is there? If the answer is not a lot consider using search traffic to build a list with free offers.

I would suggest you to create a site for your affiliate program, so you can promote it easier and give any information you want to your customers. When you have the website, you will only have to promote and promote and promote... Be sure to work a bit on the SEO of your site too.

Other ways to promote an affiliate program, is through forum posting and blog commenting, videos creation etc..

Interesting topic but not commercial, so it maybe hard to find affiliates. Perhaps you could try twitter and facebook.

That's a very niche program you are talking about. Number one is a real quality site that is going to tell affiliates that you are legit. It's so important, no one will trust sending their traffic to a program that has no name or face.

SEO is going to be very important. You aren't going to be fighting it out as much as dating or other large niches. Some good SEO using quality content will go a long way for you.

Finding forums and blogs on subject related sites will get you business. You can get listed on affiliate networks, CPA offer sites.

Adsense and other PPC advertising should be a snap for you. There is going to be very little competition on such a niche market.

If you spend the time to get your ducks in a row that could be a success affiliate niche.

I don't understand your question fully. Do you have own affiliate program or are using a an affiliate program? If you have your affiliate program, just go to a online advertising company and register your program there. However if you don't have a website, I recommend creating one.

WOW!!! Look at all of the BAD advice. No wonder people say the WF is full of misinformation.
Look dude, I will probably piss off a few here but I don't care. I make $$$ at IMing and can prove it so take this for what it's worth.
You have had people tell you to build a website. NO SHI*( DUH!!!) Did you really need to be told that. What they did not tell you is how to build an affiliate site. That is another story and PM me if you need more on that.(There is a right and wrong way to do that)
I am only responding to this as I read you want to build a survival site and I had to ask this question.... Are you wanting to promote an existing survival product?
If so then why not promote>>Ultimate Survival Guide
I say that because IT'S MINE!!! ...and it's a Click Bank product
      "Ultimate Survival Skills Guide"
I sell it there and stand alone via paypal and have a paperback version on Amazon.
So let me know what you want to do and I will be able to help.
If you are building your own product then good luck to you
But for the best answer to your question...I pay for traffic!!! FREE SEO traffic takes way too long and is not dependable in the long run. To many algorithm changes and eats up entire weeks at the computer building backlinks and all the SHI** others tell you about to make money from you. There are a lot of people here that talk FOREVER about what they do to get all that FREE gargoyle(Google) traffic and its all bull****! I can send a thousand targeted visitors to any site in a day for pennies per click>>Do you think gargoyle and other SEO algorithms pick up on that traffic? And if I can keep them there do you think SEO's notice the time visitors are on the site. Backlinking becomes perpetual by those visitors and much more natural and abundant> DUH!! So too many idiots giving you BAD information here at times.
You can do two things in this business>>
      1)Work hard....or work smart
2)Invest many hours for chump change...or spend pennies to make dollars!
My average monthly expenditure is around 2K per month, but I get a 4K return. That's a net again of 2K per month and that's why I am hardly here anymore.
But having seen this thread about survival skills I had to drop a line.
BTW...I just spend $3oo for5 a new copy so the survival site will have a fresh facelift by the end of the week too. hee hee. Nice to have some money to invest!!!

I have a site for the affiliate program and I know how to promote stuff. This is just the first time my firm has used our own affiliate program. We're use to being the affiliates, not the merchant.

I believe we have a quality site, we are still adding stuff to it but for the most part it's fully functional. Take a look for yourself at dansdepot.com. If you want to get to the affiliate page go to the bottom nav and you'll find the link. I think we look pretty legit what do you think.

cragar you're really the first person who has made much sense. We do have our own product, it's a survival kit, we also have training as well, and much more to offer. But I honestly think we could use a survival guide book to sell on the site. I'm not the owner of the site and don't have anything to do with what we sale and etc but I think if my guys are interested they would possibly consider selling the guide on there as well. If that could interest you maybe you have a skype account, if so pm me or pm how we can contact you. If you wanna see the site it's dansdepot.com

If the product is your own product, you better to promote it using Google Display Network (The banner ads).

You could read the example here:
    http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog...bs-mike-geary/

Mike Geary the creator of CB's product The Truth about Abs using Google Display Network to get huge traffic for his product and automate the info-product business.

    Hello,

You are posting on a site that has hundreds of thousands of internet marketers, you should probably start with a signature link to your site
