How do I track my traffic properly?

Hello everyone,

I would like to know how I can properly tracking the traffics that are coming to my site (from where, from what keywords, how much of them etc etc)?

I see a lot of these stats from fellow warriors talking about their sites...

Please give me a hand on this!

UPDATED: Please refer to my latest question - #28

Thanks!

    Hi,

First, you could use your cpanel stats.

Most people use prosper202 tracking tool which is free and very powerful. You can track everything that you mentioned above.

Second alternative is adtrackzgold. This is not free but very powerful.(as far as i know,You can not track where the visitor come from)

If you want basic tracking tools you can use shortening services like "bit.ly".

    Hope this helps.

Google Analytics is a very popular tool that almost all of the SEO professionals use to track the traffic reports of their websites. It gives you a clear idea of what amount of traffic came form which of the sites and which of the keywords, locations etc. You need to only verify your website in google analytics and then you can track all things.

Alternatively, you can use statcounter to track the traffic of your website.

Yeah, I think so, too. If you're looking for other tools that you can use, you can check out ahrefs and the new Bing Webmaster Tools. SEOMoz just recently had a Whiteboard Friday episode about the latter. You should watch the video, too.

Yep, Google Analytics is remarkable, and getting better all the time. It provides amazing features like real time stats, and a visual representation of the flow of visitors through your site. You could spend days digging through all the detail!

Some focus on what you want to achieve is key though. Set GA up to measure your important goals so you can then understand what leads to conversions.

I personally use Google Analytics, the majority of the time at least.

For some reason, Analytics takes it upon itself to not load appropriately on my desk-top.

When that happens, I use GetClicky.

They are both good. Tomatoe, tomato, really. They all do the same thing.

I always stick with Google analytic for this purpose, Even there are myths that "having Google analytic may harm ranks on Google itself", I never give up it as far as it gives me better and clear ideas about site traffic.

I was using Google Analytic when I use to run a blog. It has lot of information about the traffic. Where it was coming from (I could see which of my back links where giving me traffic), if it was coming from Googles' search engine it was writing the keyword visitor used. Countries of my visitors where shown and many more I cannot remember now. I suggest you to try it.

I second Woopra. They offer live tracking and are also developing their support chat pop up for services. Much easier to use over Google and you just need to download their plugin if you don't want to paste in any code.

    Hello Jayne Miracle,

I think they already mentioned but I would use Google Analytics for all this tracking you are trying to do. The new version of their site has all the tools needed for you to check on your relevant keywords, traffic sources and the like.

    Are you already getting SEO?

    Best,

Thank you guys for so much tips and information on my question. For some reason however I find Google Analytics very hard to navigate, unless I'm setting up the wrong way.

After I've logged into Google account(gmail), I was asked to "add accounts" (the confusing part), and the next step is to type in general information about the account (same thing as adding my websites, I assume).

When that's all done, I can see a list of accounts I added (a list of my websites):

And this is the most confusing part where there are "+" and "-" signs next to each accounts... Does that mean I was suppose to add all the websites under 1 account?
Or, is it meant to have several tracking numbers that I'm suppose to install for each account(website)?

Is it only me who's making it too complicated here, or?

Recently, I have been testing Getclicky - it has a nice interface, and works great in real time tracking. It has some likeable features like telling your average position in Google for your keywords.

They have a free plan that monitors up to 3.000 daily page views, and it can be used on several domains.
