Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to find someone for SEO?

This is driving me insane. I started a website and I cannot find anyone to do SEO for me (well, anyone reputable). Everyone wants to sell me a book or a plugin or a website that gives me info.

I just want to talk to a normal person, on the phone, who can provide my site with SEO. If I can't find that on this site, where the heck am I going to find it??

There are MANY of them - the problem can only be that you're not looking to pay properly for it - otherwise you should have no problem at all.

People who are awesome at SEO tend to be making a lot of money already, so they are either not available for hire, or cost a lot of money. I approached over 1000 SEO companies/freelancers to hire for my company, and they were either awful or excessively expensive.

You either need to have an awesome business idea and do an equity share with a marketing expert, or learn SEO yourself and outsource tasks on an individual basis and/or train a team.

Why not learn it yourself? The topic isn't difficult to learn. You'll be saving yourself thousands of dollars, and, in the long-run, such knowledge would only benefit your future ventures.

On-page SEO should be a must-know nowadays; off-page SEO can be outsourced.

I am basically a programming/web idiot. If someone in my area (greater Boston) would sit down at a desk and teach me, I would be interested in that. But to learn it from a book or a youtube video has just never been my strong point. Also, all the threads I read are "never stop learning" and I dont want to spend the rest of my life learning SEO. Id rather simply pay someone to do it for me.

Someone asked if I pay enough...I dont know, I cant even find anyone reputable to pay! I dont even know how to FIND someone reputable. Ive read that a lot of the SEO people who dont know what they are doing can actually HURT your google ranking.

I didnt see a warriors hiring warriors section, but you can bet your bippy Im gonna go look for it right now :-)

I would be interested in knowing exactly what you mean by "SEO."

It is essential for your success to have a precise definition for this term. It should include what it is that you hope to accomplish by the implementation.

If you do not do this you will soon find that whatever "seo" that is done -- whether by an "expert" or not -- may not help your site, and in fact may cause it harm.

Dan, I mean SEO in the broadest sense of the word...someone who increases my site traffic by optimizing my search engine results such that I appear higher when certain keywords are searched.

Unfortunately, Google does not allow aggregators to advertise on google adwords, so the ONLY way I can get on google is better SEO. Currently, I dont even get listed when you search for my exact domain name!!

              Supermoves,

This was my point. In this response you say you want to get more traffic by having your site appear higher in the search engine results.

              Fine. We all want that.

But you want to hire someone to do this for you. And you might think that there are people that do such things. And they must know what they are doing. And so you should be able to hire them. And they do what they do. And you get more traffic. And your site will generate more income.

But it doesn't work that way.

If you hire someone to do "SEO" work you do not have any way to know whether it will help your site or not. You may even have a very difficult time figuring out if they did anything at all. And if you are really unlucky, whatever they do may cause considerable harm to your site.

Just search for "penguin" in this forum. You'll find tales of woe. And much of this was the result of SEO activities which caused great harm, sometimes irreparable, to the sites they were supposed to be helping.

Before you hire anyone you need to have a very clear idea of exactly what it is that you want them to do, in detail, as well as how they are going to go about it, and you need to apply your own good judgment in deciding that those actions will in all likelihood yield enough benefit to justify the expense.

What part of SEO are you talking about in regards to?

Onpage optimization? Content creation? Link-building? Social Networking? Technical auditing?

I'm being extremely vague here. Depending on where you are at in the living cycle of your website, you might have different needs. I really hate sounding vague, but there are SEO's who are willing to work.

Or maybe I'm just the only SEO that just works.
