Aweber or MailChimp Users Please Help

I want to start a cold email campaign, but I want to see the statistics of open rates and such. I have accounts with both of these sites. I know it's illegal to add them as subscribers, but can I still send out single emails and track the open/bounce rates of them legally?

I think with mailchimp you first have to create a campaign then a list and add emails to the list. After that you can send emails to the whole list or one by one and track opens / clicks in the report tab.

Aweber has higher deliverability rate than Mailchimp. When I sent email to my list using Mailchimp, 20% of the emails end up in spam folder... So, it's not a good choice. And also, Mailchimp do not allow you to send affiliate products. It violates their TOS. So, if you are an affiliate marketer just use Aweber.

Also, you may not just take random people's email and put it on your lists. Just make an opt-in page where people could get something when they opt-in. It's how to do list building.

No, I know I can't just add subscribers. Cold emailing is legal though. I'm just wondering how I can do that one by one, to local businesses as well as track the stats of them.

I'm an offline marketer btw, but I know this would be best suited for the online marketing thread

Aweber, no questions asked. Better delivery rate, better support, more options.

I don't know about mail chimp, but Aweber won't allow you to add list without sending them verification emails where they would have to reconfirm their subscription.

So is my best option sending these with good old regular email client, with no tracking? That doesn't seem right

You cannot use mailchimp for the activitIes you want them for, it is against their terms and conditions.

Use Aweber. Simple, affordable with the best service.

    DO NOT USE MAIL CHIMP!!!!!!!!!!!

"It's worse than that, Jim - he's dead".

Aweber won't allow you to import a list for "cold emailing" at all. Not with single opt-in. Not with confirmed opt-in. Not by sending a confirmation request. Zilch. Zero. Nix. Nil. Nada. Not a sausage. Bugger all. And if they did, I (and hundreds of others here) wouldn't be using them any more for our own new lists.

I wouldn't, myself, want to be a customer of an autoresponder service that did allow people to do that (would you?!), because it would be terribly open to abuse, which means people would abuse it, which means people would get spam reports, which means their deliverability would decline, which would damage the businesses of all their other customers and the autoresponder company itself.

They have to be strict about this, in order to protect their other customers and their own businesses.

It may be that some sort of self-hosted solution is your only realistic answer, here.

(If it interests other potential responders to this thread, Paul Myers quite recently reminded the Forum that promoting or condoning the sending of bulk unsolicited email has been considered a banning offense here for more than a decade, now).
