How to profit from an ebook and blog?

Hi everyone, this is my first post!

I have been jotting down ideas for a blog I am hoping to create, and definitely have quite a few posts I can write. I have also got the foundations for an ebook, which could be linked to the blog. I am just wondering really, is this a good way to get started out with IM? I know very little and am unsure how to sell the ebook or promote the blog.

Or would affiliate marketing or adsense be a better way to start out? These forums seem like a place of vast knowledge, but with so many different things out there which I have little knowledge of, I'm finding it a little overwhelming! If someone could point me in the right direction of where a newbie can get started then I would be hugely appreciative. I'm determined to make this work, but just don't know where to start!

I had a little look at the WSO, would this be a good place to get started? I think once I've made my first $ and know that this is all possible then things will get easier for me!

Thanks everyone!

    Dennis,

It depends, are you simply trying to make some income or are you determined to use your blog to generate income? IM is such a Vast topic and you can make money from virtually ALL of the many "Channels" but its all about having a perfect "Blend" of channels that give you the result you want. If you choose to set up a blog, then you will need to drive targeted traffic to that blog using any traffic method of your choice whether Paid or Free. Paid traffic generates the fastest results (Adwords,Adsense, Promotions, JVs, etc)

To be honest the amount of income you can make from blogging is huge however it does take a good bit of time.

If your just starting out I always recommend people that I help one on one to start building their list right away. You cant ever go wrong with that. Adsense in order to get to that $100 check your going to need a boatload of traffic. youd be better off blogging reviews about products even if they are bad just be honest in your reviews.

Thanks for your help. I thought it would be an enjoyable way to get into this whole IM business!

It is my goal to eventually be able to make $100 a day. I am fully aware of the hard work it will take and am happy to put this work in. Which area would you recommend someone with no experience and only armed with basic knowledge to begin their journey? Is there a how to guide to get started on this area, whether that be adsense, SEO or something else? I want to get going but have no real idea where to start! I'm also aware that its better to gain experience and expertise in one area than to know a little about everything, so if someone could give me a place to start I will take this advice onboard and focus solely on this area. Hopefully then I'll be able to give back to the forums some of my future expertise!

    Hey Dennis,

If you're heart's set on creating a blog. Great!

Just know that starting a blog from scratch will be a long and tedious task. And often not profitable for the first few months at least.

My advice to you would be to start your blog just as you had planned... but instead of selling the e-book, you should give it away for free on your blog to entice people to sign up to your e-mail list.

As you've probably heard... 'The money is in the list!'

Then you can start profiting from your list by pitching offers to them as an affiliate.

This is how I would go about starting a blog, anyway I'm sure others will likely have different views.

Absolutely right Trevor, the money is in the list. Once you get that list, you "should" achieve some really great conversions on the products that you offer to them. Just be sure too not be seen to spam stuff on them, I get soooo many Marketers who all claim to be gurus (no names here) at email marketing but once you get their emails you just immediately feel turned off from anything they say, primarily because it's just selling. You can't just sell, offer advice, free stuff, anything to keep that already targeted market interested. It doesn't have too be much, but if you have a loyal audience your almost guaranteed to succeed. Period.

      Good luck!

    • Your idea is good. Make sure you write content that is relevant to your ebook. Build links and share your posts. Promote your ebook on social media sites and encourage people to visit your blog and purchase the book.

        Hi
I'm fairly new to the forum especially to being active but from what I've read and learnt blogging and having your own ebook is a good way to start. Yes it will take some time to get going and get traffic to your site but if you are consistent in your approcch and put the effort in and if your ebook is full of useful stuff then there is no reason you cannot succeed. I have had some success with Adsense but again this takes time. I don't think there is a magic button so your way is as good as any. Just stick to one thing and don't get side track and as you build your list you can build up that relationship with your readers.
        Hope that helps

Indeed blogging is a great way to start. I am starting down the list building path.

I just created a blog and I am driving traffic through my signature link.

You can not only build a list but a brand with a blog. Become someone that people know and trust - which also means they will buy from you!

You can check my blog out at KarsonOnline.Com!

I just started it like a week ago.

Thanks for the help everyone, I will get the ebook written, probably make a longer one which could be sold as I'd like to have a product I can actually attempt to sell, and also a shorter ebook in which to entice people to sign up, thus creating a list...

I am still uncertain about alot. I've spent most of today reading through posts, searching for key terms I've seen mentioned. Whilst I have a vague idea of what alot of these mean and know what I need to achieve, I have no idea how to actually start this and get the ball rolling.

For example I've seen people say I can make money and drive traffic through SEO. But I have no idea how I start doing this. I am aware of what keywords are and understand I need to rank highly in them, but am unsure how to know which words these are! Do my blog posts need to revolve around these words?

I've searched the forums but am still struggling to find a practical guide to help me start. I've tried googling it and all I get is peoples squeeze pages, trying to sell me guides (which I understand is the aim, and I guess this is an example of IM doing their job well!). I am open to buying something that would help, but have no idea which product is best as all these landing pages make very similar promises!

I am enthusiastic and feel my blog will be quite straightforward to keep creating content for. However before I fully get started I would like to know that I won't be exclusively writing as a hobbie and that there is the potential to make some money as well!

Hey again everyone, apologies for the double post but it feels like I've had abit of a breakthrough...

I now understand what adsense is, and also understand a little bit about keywords (got there eventually!). If I write posts with certain keywords in then this will show up in google and I will be able to drive traffic to my blog.

I have searched on the google adword tool and whilst this gives me figures for the volume of monthly searches I do not have any info on CPC. Is there a tool out there that gives me this info as well as potentially highlighting niches?

Another question was regarding the domain name. If I can get a domain name with an exact match to the keyword then this is good, but how vital is that if I am unable to get this domain. I'm from the UK, would .co.uk addresses put off non UK visitors?

I know that a high CPC with low traffic could be equally profitable to a low CPC with a high traffic. Similarly a successful blog could be as profitable as several less successful blogs. I have came up with ideas for three or four blogs which I could create relatively quickly, but I hope to develop my original idea into something stronger, more of a brand if you will, as this is something I am passionate about and want to do that area justice. Is this a good place to start?

I know I'm abit of a drain on knowledge at the moment, without giving anything back right now, but please bare with me and hopefully I can help you some day soon!
