Weight Loss Product - Does being female help?

Hi Guys

When it comes to a weight loss product such as TheDietSolutionProgram , do you think having a female as the main character/based person helps?

The reason I ask is according the Google Double Click Ad Planner, twice as many people who visit the above site are female

So, maybe females can relate to the story being told on that site? so the conversion is higher?

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts?

      Hey Dave,

I've been in the fitness and weight loss niche for 12 years and have written and sold many ebooks.

I do know that if you're selling a program targeted to women... it helps to have a women as the "storyline" or person doing the selling because it's almost an automatic "trust and credibility" factor when it's "just us women talking"

Women tend to relate better to other women when it's something like weight loss because you need a certain level of compassion, understanding, empathy, etc...

Now, with that said, a good copywriter/marketer can write in ANY tone and sell.

But in my tests, I've noticed that when I write copy for a women's weight loss product, I get better conversions when my storyline involves a women's point of view.

For example, I too was an overweight woman, I tried everything I could find to lose weight, nothing worked. I dieted, exercised for hours, and still no luck.

But then I stumbled upon a secret method that allowed me to lose 40 pounds in 3 months... and now I teach other women too.

      Ect, ect,

Again, women will relate to other women... it's tough to say "hey woman, I know how you feel, I too wanted to lose weight" and if that's coming from a guy, it's tougher. You have to work harder to build trust, rapport, credibility.

But the same goes with selling programs to guys, it's almost always better to have a guy be the storyline or expert. Again, it's just us guys talking here.

A guy who wants to get in shape will probably relate more to another guy than a woman trying to sell a fitness program.

But in all my sales letters, I could almost always find a woman to use as the focal point and storyline if I was selling to women.

Same with guys... either the author or a success story can be the focal point in the sales letter.

Bottom line, people buy from other people whom they know, like, trust, and also relate to.

A woman will feel more connected to another woman, there's that prebuilt trust, credibility, rapport, etc...

So definitely don't overlook that, good job pointing that out.

It depends on the sales angle of the product. So I think testing will answer your question.

I'm no expert in IM but I love fitness. Women can relate if the based person is also female. I would be a follower if the female is toned/fit/muscular/etc. It makes you feel that you can also look like them if you follow their routine.

I was HUGE prior to eating healthy. I stumbled upon a site and requested for an appointment. What makes me convinced were females who weighed over 200 lbs. After the program, they lose over a 100 pounds! I'm on a Cohen diet.

So there you go. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate you taking the time to reply

Last question, what do you do if you want to target men and women and only have a guy who has a fit figure, but don't know any females that do?

I saw truthaboutabs.com has a .. if you are a woman click here, men here etc.. but what if you dont know anyone and want to target both sexes?

As testimonials need to be true.. I would be a bit stuck

        Thanks everyone

Yes of course... Baby and woman is the best target audience to make money. Using woman figure for woman audience will make your message more meaningful.
according the Google Double Click Ad Planner, twice as many people who visit the above site are female
Even you have researched about it... You should go for it.
If the visitors is mainly woman you absolutely should use woman as the character of your product. The conversion will be higher because your sales pitch will be more convincing and targeted.

Cialdini held an experiment that proved that
people tend to want to associate themselves with
people who they are similar to.

If the target audience is female, naturally the
majority will be "magnetically" aligned with a
rapport prior to making a decision.

You have to keep in mind that weight loss products are made for woman. Therefore your site and its content should target them more than the males.

Maybe it's just me, but when I used to look at weight loss products, women-based ones had a tendency to seem like the kind of thing you'd want to buy if you needed to lose weight for a few weeks, say for a High School Reunion, and then were okay with putting it all back on--whether that was actually the case or not, that's what it always seemed like.

Male-based ones come in two categories: 'off the wall body building crazy' that was also the kind of pie in the sky wishing that women based ones were, and functional 'lose this like this, go here, do this, okay now you're done'.

I tried using the male based ones and ended up losing 40 pounds after finding out I was just allergic to gluten, so I don't know how effective either one is at losing weight, just that women-based ones didn't seem to work all that well.

I want to get into this niche, but it is a good point made by the OP. Of course, you can use women on youir sales page, but what about when it comes to building the relationship with the list. Yes, you can use a persona/pen name, but in effect you are pretending to be somebody you are not.

Anybody here email their female list as a guy in this niche??

    Cheers

I too will be creating a business around certain niches in this niche. But I wonder. does anybody have any experience doing powerpoint presentations or webinars with women--as a male. I could hire a voice over but I'd much rather not do that.

I'm trying to find an angle that would allow me to "stay male". this is tough and fun at the same time.

I'm really good friends with a few trainers at the gym that I attend, they are all guys. and 90% of their clients are women. So I've been told.

I'm sure this can translate to the internet somehow.

women will usually buy products that other women recommend. i depends mainly on the product. if you are targeting women then yes it helps to have a women's perspective on things.

I guess just being a female won't help, at least not that much.

But being an attractive and slim female or a male with six pack abs will probably help.
