How do you explain PLR to clients??

Hi!

I've been a freelance writer for 7 years and started a PLR store about 6 months ago. I recently offered advice on digital point to someone who wanted to start a store. I got attacked by this other person ( a non writer ) and now I am starting to question how I present myself as a PLR seller when there are people like this person within the forum that completely diss PLR content for the main reason of being duplicate content.

Advice would be lovely right this minute because this guy has me feeling super depressed

Thanks everyone ...

    Screw him.

Take a look at the following and be at peace.

As a matter of fact, use the search function and hunt down posts by Alexa Smith on the topic.

I've been thinking about this and what I've realized is we tout the word PLR but forget the last word licence.

    Licensingpages® - What is Licensing?

It's something I need to read into so I can better explain myself (... if you say writer they always joke that I write romance or dirty novels).

The only other comparison I can think of is a little like white labelling. Lots of food and supplements are white labels.

Wow this is timely! I had a similar altercation with a guy on another forum. In fact he's one of the owners.

I had asked for feedback on my squeeze page (in the appropriate forum of course) and he went into one about how much he hated PLR, it was all rubbish and how he would never sign up to my list (not that I ever asked him to) blah blah blah.

I kept my calm but firmly put him in his place and I've not heard a peep out of him since. I still post there with my head held high - I refuse to hide in the shadows, so he's just going to have to deal with having a PLR seller on his forum (unless he bans me because of my PLR association... but whatever lol). In fact, I'm going to a networking event next week that he co-runs - I'm relishing the thought of educating this fool in person.

If you don't like PLR because you've been burnt before, fair enough, I can respect your hesitancy to want to try it again. But to say ALL PLR is rubbish, when someone hasn't seen your work is just small minded ignorance as far as I'm concerned. Yes, it annoys the heck out of me when people diss my business model like this because I work damn hard and I'm passionate about what I do.

Don't let anyone knock your confidence. Believe in your business regardless of what others may think and put out the best quality you can.

    All the best!

Thank you so much for your message. I'm not even going to try to put him in his place. I spent way too much time trying to prove my point and it just wasn't working. The last message he left talked about my business -- took everything to not go off on him publicly in the forum. Instead, I just left without a word. I'm so much better than that so I won't bother.. as another poster said " Screw him! " LOL.

I love this business and I don't think anything will change that. I can't believe that so many people invest all their time into argues and trying to put down another persons work. Sometimes these people just hit a nerve.. I think I'm much better now -- thanks to all of you!

And I completely love that rant because it's completely true!

Sorry you had to deal with that. But you're right, there's little point in getting into an online fight with someone who refuses to get it. It's just a waste of energy. Best to say your piece and walk away, which you did, so good for you!

I'm glad you're feeling better now.

        Stay positive!

I always told my clients it was like getting a book ghost written for you except that it can be whatever you need! You are just getting the rights to use it.

          Quick and simple!

          They usually understand that.

I tell them that they are written by newpaper editors and therefore used a lot. That is the reason to rewrite it so that they become unique.

    He's a dumbass. Ignore him.

When you write something, you own it. You can license it however you want, and if you sell someone a PLR licence, he can use it however he sees fit.

PLR gives your customer the right to completely rework it and have something entirely unique. If he doesn't do that, then it's because he doesn't want to, and it's his fault - not yours.

It is not your job to say "I'm sorry, you are too stupid and lazy to buy my product." You have every right to take money from stupid people who will do stupid things with your product, and you are not responsible for the stupid things they do unless you told them to do that.

Thank you for that --- completely lifted my spirits. That guy was crazy and it's his choice to be so against PLR when it's so wonderful.

I love the ghostwriter idea and the news articles idea -- I will be using those explanations sometime soon.

      Thanks everyone!

We're all going to assume that these people shun all "own brand" foods in the supermarkets - just in case PLR food upsets their tummies

Martin, that's almost exactly how I explain PLR to my offline friends who have no clue what I do. I explain that it's just like the generic food that supermarkets put their name on, only you can actually make changes to it if you want. I also explain that the content is often the same, or same quality, as what you see in the big name-brands.

For online or offline marketers, it's really not that different from taking your own content and repurposing it.

As for the guy who dissed you? Well, as my teen's Think Geek t-shirt says "People are so stupid...and it makes me sad."
