Does pinging your bookmarks help any way in the increase of the ranking of your keyword/site in the SERPs?

I don't think it'll help your rankings, but it might help keep the search engine spiders on your site. I like Pingler.

I used to ping my brand new sites (yes I used pingler too)

I haven't done it in at least 4 months and I have not seen any drop in my results

Like someone said above it probably use to help but not anymore

I'm wondering what's the difference between pinging and indexing? I've built about 200 high PR links to my site, about 30 or so show up in google webmaster tools.

I was going to either ping 10 a day using one of the ping sites, but I also see they have indexers too, what is the difference?

Long term it doesn't help you, in the short term it may help you see a spike in rankings, but we all know what that means, a possible google slap. Be careful pinging links, i had bad experience in the days when i cared about building links to my sites.

Pining and Social Bookmarking may help you to quick index your web page.

That is the only instance that it may be worth pinging the links (if you really have no patience) but it's not necessary google will find the site anyway soon., or you can submit the url via google's webmaster tool!

It helps your links get noticed.

I also like indexing them with linklicious.me

You can get a free account there and they will let you submit 2500
links per day to help you get them indexed.

If you're links are not indexed then they are not counted and do not provide any value or link juice. So these indexing tools are certainly helpful.

I think pinging just helps to notify search engines that there is a new page to be crawled.

It may get your new page indexed faster but has very limited impact on the search rankings.
