Hi all, Im a bit newbie to that list thing, and wanted to know if my stats are reasnable: Only 50% of those who submitted confirm the email. 12% unsubscribe after confirming the email and receiving my "free gift". Is it normal? |

Hi, I'd say maybe 25% of them don't confirm. Till now I haven't encountered the second situation -> unsubscribing after receiving the free gift. I've had subscribers opt out of the list, but not right away. |

It is normal for not everyone to confirm although 50% is very high. I guess that most of those that dont confirm didin't enter their real email anyway. Again it is unusual for that many people to opt out immediately after receiving your gift (I've only done it once or twice because the free gift was so poor) What Niche are you in? Give a link to your opt in page and I'll see if you have made any major errors! |

The numbers are going to vary from list to list, heavily dependent on a few things. The market, i.e. who is subscribing to your list. What is your list offering? Depending on what you are offering and thus why they are opting into your list in the first place, it may be perfectly normal. If your target market consists of people who have had heavy exposure to online marketers lists, then they are more likely to only stay with lists they are interested in, and immediately opt out of a list that they sign onto just to get the freebies. In 100 sign ups, seeing 10 or 20 not confirming is reasonably common. If your sign ups happen to have a spam filter that is flagging your confirmation and routing it to a junk mail folder, then a number of them may never see the confirmation message, and thus will not confirm. |

Hmm.... My niche is weight loss and I offer my "top 10 wieght loss tips". Truth is Im not too much concerned at this moment about the 10% optout, I will revise my tips and try to improve them. But, I understand that 50% not confirming is way more then average, so what could be the problem? Im using Aweber, and I left the default "please confirm" email almost without untouched... |

Perhaps you should make a custom step by step page of how they should confirm their account. Subscribe to your own list, then show what the message looks like and where exactly the link is so that they'll click to activate their account. You can do so by using screencap.

But, Im using Aweber and I guess half the people here use it also, and they dont use a step-by-step guide for it, and still they dont have only 50% confirmation... so, whats wrong ?? | |

If possible do your own 7 day newsletter as a free gift and less people will opt out until after the 7 days but by that time you may have offered real value to them so may stay subscribed and possibly may lead to more sales down the road. Just an option ![]() Bryan |

If the English lesson is over... back to our show. I switched to single opt in because I was realizing similar results. I instead send the link to my download page in the auto response once they opt in. I can still tell who is opening my offer and who is not but I haven't excluded anyone from my list. Here is the real bad news. I bet only 10-15 percent of the people on your list ever open one of your emails. That is the real issue. So, if your 40 opt ins cost $1 each and only 20 confirm, you are really paying $2 each. Now if only 6 read your emails, the cost per real lead is now $6.66. This is what alot of internet marketers don't understand. The economics don't always make sense. |
