How To Add Multiple Pen Names To Your Amazon Kindle Account

I was a little surprised when I had lot of people asking me how to have multiple pen names linked from one KDP account. It's extremely easy, so I'll make this quick.

  • Go to Author Central and register an account under your DESIRED pen name. You'll want to use a separate email for each pen name (every time you register a new pen name you'll want to use a separate email address) you want to use. NOTE: You WILL have multiple accounts on this site, but they all link to you single KDP account

  • Click "Add Books". Use the search bar to find your book(s). Click "Add". It will take some time for your books to be added to your library.

  • Once the book(s) are added you'll be able to do advanced edits to description, etc. You'll be able to add bold, italics, underlines and bullets.

  • Repeat the same process for each pen name. Amazon does not have a limit to how many pen names you can use. Once you've added the book(s), they'll still be linked to your KDP account, but they'll show under your pen name.

Like I said, super simple, but since so many people have asked me how to do this, I assume there are many of you that don't know how. Hope this helps.

Carpe Diem,
-Ryan Leonard

Good post! Just want to mention that Amazon allows you to manage up to two pen names per Author Central account.

Hey Amy, thank you. Do you mean that with one author central account, you can have 2 separate pen names? I was completely unaware of that, where's the option to do so? Thanks

It is actually THREE pen names per AC acct.

When you need more, you create another AC acct... and all is on the up and up. ;-)

This is how Amazon WANTS you to handle ti

    Hi Ryan,

Here is some more info from Amazon:
    • Pen name If you are writing under a pen name, click let us know under the "Do you have a pen name" heading. We'll ask you what your pen name is, and we’ll contact the book publishers to verify you as author. Once you are verified, you can get to your pen name through the link in the upper right corner of Author Central.

This link appears only if you have a pen name listed.
You can manage two Author Pages this way, though they will not be associated in any way on Amazon.com.

Do you add different stock photos to your pen name so that you can have a picture for each one? Or is that allowed?

You can add different photos for each pen name / author profile. They are independent of each other.

To add a new pen name, first add the book, and at the time of adding the book, you will be asked if you want to add a pen name.

    Good luck.

Hey guys, (and Gals) I wanted to update everyone on a response I just got from the folks at KDP:

    Here it is,

You may certainly use multiple pen names or a pseudonyms for your Kindle titles. After you publish, we may ask you to submit a copy of the rights to your title.

There is no limit of pen names in your KDP account. You can add the pen name as author name when uploading your book.

To edit an author name associated with your book:

    1. Visit http://kdp.amazon.com and sign in.
    2. Check the box at the left side of the book and then click on the "Actions" button at the top left and choose "Edit book details."
    3. Click on "Add contributors" under the Book Contributors field.
    4. Add or remove contributors and click "Save."
    5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save and Continue."

You'll then be redirected to "Rights & Pricing" where you'll need to reconfirm Content Rights, and click "Save and Publish" at the bottom of the screen. Changes will take effect on the website within 48 hours.

Similarly, be sure to enter your real name on the "Your Account" section of KDP so that your payments and other documentation are issued correctly.

I hope this helps! Thanks for using Amazon KDP.

    Cool eh?

    Have a great day!

This is true - unlimited pen names thru KDP... and only ONE KDP acct EVER!!!!!

But, the original post was referring to Author Central where things are different.

In Author Central, you are allowed three names per EACH Author Central acct and you CAN have multiple Author Central accts...

Yep Tink is correct, there is a difference between Author Central and your KDP account. And there are different rules for each.

You can have up to THREE names in each Author Central Account. And you are allowed multiple Author Central Accounts.

However, you are only allowed ONE Kindle Publishing Account. And those having multiple accounts are at risk for deletion. In that ONE Kindle Publishing Account, you are allowed as many author names as you want.

So for example, you could publish under 6 names in your one KDP Account and then open two Author Central Accounts to manage 3 names under each.

Key Takeaway here is....only ONE KDP account or you can get deleted.

Can any self-publishers weigh in on blogging your Kindle Books?

Which would it be better to have:

    1. A single web /squeeze page for each book separately?
    2. A single website for each pen name/genre, with multiple titles on each?
    3. One blog with your real name and all your genres, books & pen names on it?

Assuming each website necessitates its own Social Media accounts + campaigns....
