Free Traffic Generation Methods

In these tough economic times they're a LOT of people out there looking for free ways to drive traffic to their squeeze pages/sites. The following are some fee traffic generation methods I came up with just off the top of my head. Are there any I missed? Which one do you like to use?
  • SEO
  • Article Marketing
  • Social Media (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Forum Marketing
  • Craigslist
  • Ad Swaps
  • Video Marketing

    I'm not sure what name you would give it, but you can get some authority links from answering Yahoo answers questions. I guess that's just backlinking, but they can be quite effective.

      Yea thats one of the most assumed yet a very perfect ways that people can get huge traffic. It just needs a little time

        I have to agree with you. This is a good way to create quality backlinks and establish your reputation in the online community. Sort of hitting two birds with one stone.

    I have used squidoo but I am pretty impatient and the long wait times atleast for me to get my article published kind of put me off.

      I'm sorry, the really truly successful people know that it can take years to build something of substance, that will pay you for the rest of your life.

      I wish it could be magic button, because so many people need money right now, but the reality is this: those people who tell you that they are making money in days - the truth is they have money to spend on ad campaigns!

      Making money using nothing but free traffic methods can take some time, but if it's done right, and your site has quality content that you spend maybe 1/2 hour a week on to update, will eventually become viral on it's own.

      Hint: Consider creating a fantastic free gift with your URL embedded in it - ebook, software, apps,templates, etc. Distribute this wonderful free gift to all the communities IN YOUR NICHE, with no strings attached. Just spread that goodwill around and ask for nothing back...

      and then...

      watch what happens when your wonderful free gift becomes viral!

        I love how you answered the question. Nothing is really free. It either requires you spending time and patience, or money on ads in order to generate leads.

    If you have your own product, building out an affiliate network is a powerful way to get traffic.

    Otherwise being active in relevant discussion forums, guest blogging and video are definitely working well these days given the knocks SEO has taken with Google changes.

    SEO still works, but many challenges for sure.

    Out of the methods you mentioned above, I have probably had the most success with article marketing, with forum & video marketing finshing in 2nd & 3rd place respectively.

    What I recommend to most people is start out with free traffic methods, and once you make a little money reinvest ALL of it in order to scale your business with paid traffic sources.

      I couldn't agree more. I only use free methods when I'm starting out. Paid traffic is defiantly the way to take your business to the next level!

    What I have experienced is traffic from Search Engines is targeted traffic to your website, if you participate in related forums, then traffic from related forums is also targeted if you have good reputation in the forum.

    For your looking for free quick traffic, craigslist is a goldmine. You can drive ton's of traffic to your website in a short time if you can get CL postings up that aren't ghosted and flagged for spam.

    Use google keyword tool to search for keywords in your niche. Sort the order of keywords so they are in order of competition lowest to highest.

    You will usually find a key word with low competition with medium or high search volume. Check to see if this domain or a slight variation of it is available.

    If you can incorporate this keyword into the domain name of your blog and then make the title and articles based around the same keyword, you are well on track to rank page one on google with that keyword if you keep posting quality content. Especially on low competition keywords.
