Finding Other Sites' Most Popular Pages/Posts

Before writing articles or blog posts I find it useful to look around other sites and blogs to see what subjects have been popular with their readers. But it can take a long time to go searching through. So I was wondering if anyone had any tips for finding out which are the most visited pages or posts on sites when we don't have access to their analytics data.

I know that looking the number of comments, links, shares, etc is good way of knowing how popular a page is once you're on it, but is there a more efficient way where you don't have to go through looking at tons of content?

Thanks Metrics, but does that tell you the most popular pages or just which rank well in search?

        1. Semrush gives list of popular pages rank in search. IT gives you a good indication.
        2. Also go to the targt blog and then see in the sidebar for topics like "most popular posts" "most viewed posts" "most commented posts" etc.
        3. If the blog has wp post views then you can see the traffic count for each posts too.
All the above three gives you a very good info on the popular posts for the target blog.

Think you are pretty spot on with comments, likes etc. There isn't really any other way to do it. But you can use https://www.google.com/adplanner to find a domain's overall traffic. Might be helpful for you.
