Competitor has 200 million backlinks on his google places, can his listing get shutdown for this?

I'm just curious. I noticed this guy has almost no backlinks on his website, but seems to have spammed his google places to oblivion.

There is no way his website could ever get in trouble for this right? He seems to be building around 100,000 backlinks a day, I know he gets LOTS of traffic to his google places (in fact all his business comes from there), so we're considering doing something similar to our listing but to a lesser degree.

What is the worst that can happen? They shut down the listing? He has been doing this for about 4 years now which leads me to believe thats not even likely.

I could really use some more information about this I tried searching on google but can't seem to find anything about google place listings getting "penalized". Makes me assume it doesn't happen am I right or wrong?

    google her later waiting time to act. so that there is fear all have a back link that is not natural. it could be banned by goolge.

      It's googles backlinks. it's counting. Google has about 200+ million backlinks to it.
