To E-Book Or Not E-Book: That Is The Question

I am attempting to develop a passive income niche site in mental health. My plan was to write articles but not necessarily to sell anything. The more I learn about IM the more it seems as though selling something is the way to go, in addition to the content on the site. I have written a great deal of information about one particular mental illness and was wondering if it would be worthwhile to turn that into an e-book or to instead put that content on the site. The e-book would be approximately 50 to 70 pages in length and it's a topic that I am have expertise in. I was thinking about selling it in the $5-$10 range. I did research on Google keywords and found out that approximately 1.5 million people search for this illness monthly. Which method do you think would be better? Put the information on the site or turn that portion of information into an e-book? Thanks.

I strongly suggest selling your own product as it really does help with building a good deal of credibility within your niche.

But, if you are building a niche site your going to need content as well. So, really it's your decision - there isn't really a wrong one.

I mean, you could use all the info as content (articles) and still promote as an affiliate. But, if I were in your shoes - I would be creating my own product.

Put it in on the site first. Then improve and refine it for the book.

I too am wanting to develop an ebook on mental health subject that i have expertise in. Im not as far as you in developing the material yet however!

I was thinking the same creating a blog with the content and then producing the book with the information refined and organised. Though im not expert in marketing i have two thoughts. 1. Don't undersell yourself if your an expert and have value in the content make the price right. 2. Think about publishing a real book and sending through the post.

Scratch the ebook... build a brand. Books, audio, video etc.

Create a fantastic ebook and give it away for FREE to build your list. The higher quality the book, the more initial trust and rememberability you create.

Whilst continuing sending valuable content to your list, be in the process of creating a paid product. Not a book, but something of higher perceived value.

    Continue to move forward...

Making your own digital product, like an eBook for example is almost essencial in this business. Although you should ALWAYS make sure the quality is high enough to reach the standards of your customers.

My personal opinion is that you should go for the eBook, but I would rise the price tag a little, maybe 19$ or so. Having a low price could have negative effects too, like making people think the quality is low.

I vote for making the ebook, make a website for it, and sell it through Clickbanks.

Just read this story. It's a story about a person that earned $1,000,000 per month from his ebook about abs.
The Truth About Abs: How To Make $1,000,000 Per Month with Digital Products (Plus: Noah Kagan results)

You could be like this guy too, if you turn the content to an ebook.

    Just a personal opinion...

I'd write articles that give partial but incomplete information and a give a call to action for joining your list. Immediately after they join your list I would attempt to sell your ebook on a download or thank you page (or both).

Then follow-up regularly with emails that give partial but incomplete information and finish by referring back to your ebook and the sales page.... that way you are constantly sending a follow-up email with future chances of making the sale.

If -- and this is always a possibility -- you don't have any success you can always change, improve, update or simply give away your eBook to build your list some more.

I do like what Retsced says about making it bigger. Do whatever if fastest to get results and see if it's worth investing more time into first.

If your book is good quality and like you said around 50 pages I would recommend that you set up a new site and sell the e-book through clickbank because not only can you use this site to build a list of buying customers related to your niche but you can also get other affiliate to sell your book for you and if the niche is as big as you say it is quite likely there will be lots of people that would want to promote your book.

You'll notice that the people making the real big money in affiliate marketing are generally the people that own the website that the affiliate are promoting!

Example I know a guy on a different forum that has quite a simple website with an e-book and makes over $50,000 a month and he doesn't sell a single copy himself it is all done by his affiliate via clickbank.

It can be quite tricky to set up a site through clickbank but in your case I really think it would be worth your while especially as you can bring attention to this book through your current blog.

I say write the e-book and keep learning about marketing. Eventually you will need to create your own funnel if that is the direction you are headed. Build your list.

Yes, if you create an ebook. You can get many advantages from it.
    You can build your list
You can get affiliates that will promote the ebook
    You can make passive income.

Just make the ebook first. And if it didn't turn well, you can release it anytime as PLR or article.

    Hi,

Definitely turn it into an e-book But are you confident people are going to buy your e-book? Not being negative or anything it would be harder for people to buy information or an e-book just like that. As I always say people wont buy information for information sake, they buy it to SOLVE a problem or a pain they have.
But at that price point , I'm guessing people wont be bothered too much about the price.

My humble advice is first create that e-book and sales page. Drive targeted traffic to your sales page with PPC to test and see if it converts. Don't waste your time with SEO only to find out later your ebook doesn't convert.

I'm talking about $100 to $200 PPC campaigns. BUT please bare in mind.. PPC for mental illness type keywords ARE EXPENSIVE.

    I hope that helps.
EDIT: I don't know your keywords but PPC is going to be very expensive!

I liked retsced's idea of offering the ebook as a lead generation tool to be honest.

We live in an era where people really expect to learn via videos.

However, you might want to explore the Kindle option, possibly at the $3.99 price point - not only can this yield some income, but it would create publicity for your website.

Do both. Write the Ebook and make it available for sale in as many places as you can, ie. directly from your site (use PayPal, or similar), as an Amazon Kindle book, and on as many other marketplaces as you can think of (for example, as a PLR on JVzoo).

Then rewrite chapters or sections from the book as website content too. Nothing wrong with using the same content both ways. You can outsource re-writing if you don't want to do it yourself (oDesk is easy to use).
