When Do Backlinks Take Effect

I was wondering if anyone had any experience as to when a backlink will effect your search engine rank for the anchored keyword?

Of course it cannot take any effect until google has discovered the page with the link on it, so lets assume I have page A which is indexed and ranking in google in position 30th. Then I go to a 3rd party website and create an anchored link pointing to Page A.

If google finds the page B today, when will it have effect on page A for the anchored keyword text.

Im sure it probably depends on the websites PR, so lets assume its a brand new page on a PR5 website.

Some take minutes and others take weeks. Depends on how often the linking site is spidered

im not sure what you mean...

do you mean the backlink counts as soon as the google spider visits the page and indexes it?

Or is there a backlink spider that visits indexed pages at a later time to look up and give credit to the backlinks?

As the_writer has pointed out there is no hard and fast rules here. What I was saying was that if you are getting backlinks from a site like digg that is spidered by the minute you will see a faster result than say some unknown blog.

ok... i understand that some backlinks might take longer to find than others based on site crawling popularity like digg...

but the main questions is... if google does find a page with a link pointing back to my page, does it count that second or does google count the backlink at a later time

Thanks for you answers so far

It really depends where the back links are coming from. If they come from better PRs or higher traffic sites I think that it weighs heavier than from lower PR sites.

well that is why I said if a link pointing to my page is a brand new page on a PR5 website.

This at least means its a new page with an outbound link for a website with some authority

    Hey Robdogg,

There are no hard and fast rules to this stuff. Google is an ever-evolving algorithm, and so the results we get are fluid by nature.

You might get a result in 10 minutes, you may get a result in 10 months...or maybe nothing will happen at all.

Your best bet for link building is to build steadily and regularly, then it's more likely you'll see steady gains in the SERPs.

    Hope that helps.
