Cloaking affiliate link

11 replies
I am a newbie and having trouble cloaking my affiliate link. I have searched it on Google and I've tried every method I've come across and it still doesn't work.

Is it possible that someone would give me step-by-step instructions on how to do it, please? I find out that most of the answers I've found are incomplete.

I'm trying to use WordPress and I have a plugin for cloaking but have not idea what to put in the blanks.

I'm floundering....help!!! Thank you........

    Hey Mate!

    Ok take a deep breath there are only 2 things you need to consider.

    1. Your affiliate URL, thats the one your cloaking so place that in the "re-direct" or "destination" field. May be called something different but you get where it goes yeah?

    2. the word your going to use to shorten it. That goes in the other field called "short name" or "shorten to" or something along those lines.

    Lastly some plugins create a folder so your link may look like:
    yourdomain.com/go/whatever-you-want
    You may have the ability to change that, DON'T. If your struggling keep it simple.

    Re-cap.
    Place your affiliate link in the Destination or similar section.
    Place the word you want to shorten it to in the other field.
    Hit Update/save.
    Use the Short url instead of the affiliate link.

    Still confused?

    hit Internet Marketing Tool Shed | Facebook and make a post requesting help.

    I hope that makes at least a little sense.

    WP Traffic Tools has a free link masking module as well with clickthrough tracking. The paid module includes geotargeting capabilities and other advanced features.

    I am just uploading a php file to my blog here is how i do this :

    1.copy this code :
    PHP Code:
    <?php
    header
    ("Location: youraffilliatelink.com");
    ?>
    2. paste it to .txt file then upload it to your blog or website root foler and rename it eg. myaffiliateebook.php
    3. now you will just link to yourwebsite.com/myaffiliateebook.php and it will redirect to your affiliate link! Dont forget to add rel="nofollow" to your links!
    and i usualy add Disallow : myaffiliateebook.php or whatever your file is called cuz search engines doesn't like cloaking

    hope i am doing this right if not correct me!

      Good answer. This is what I do most often and was going to write this as the answer.

      The beauty of this method is that it will work no matter whether you have a WP website or a website made using another method (or even a manually made HTML/PPHP website for that matter).

    Great advice here. Make sure you get what everyone is saying about tracking. If you aren't tracking your conversions, you are wasting your time. Whatever system you use, make sure you do have tracking as part of it.

    I totally agree with Mike. You really need analytics or your wasting time. What is even better, get a link cloaking software that tracks views to a page and clicks on a link. If you look in my signature, my software does this. If you need me to hold your hand to get you going, I don't mind.

    But I heard google is against cloaking. Can someone put some light on it ?
