1053 views per day, but all wasted.

Hey all,

I have heard many people say how powerful Youtube is for traffic, and it wasn't until I went into one of my accounts to see a video I posted in Sep 2008 has reached 163k views!

I couldn't believe it, that averages out to 1053 view (give or take a few) per day.

That's some SERIOUS traffic for one piece of content. Try getting that traffic from an article!

However, despite adding a prominent link, the whole thing was a dud...no sales, little traffic.

I think where I went wrong was that I wasn't targeting tightly enough. The topic had wide appeal, and that's not a good thing from a sales perspective.

I guess I'm just posting this to confirm that yes, Youtube is JAM PACKED full of traffic...

...and with more people coming online everyday, already hearing about Youtube more than any other website to visit as soon as they get connected, can you imagine how much potential there will be to drive 1000's of TARGETED traffic in the near future?

In fact, I think this may be the start of some experiments. Let's see if I can get some targeted "niche" traffic to some videos, instead of just a general popular subject type of video.

Bottom line - if you need traffic, there's more than enough to go round at YT.

If you don't mind me asking, where was the "prominent" link placed? Any branding on the video itself?

Just curious as I am looking at taking a stab at video marketing soon...but in a slightly different way...

Well, I'd be curious to see how your experiments go...

Same thing here. You tube should make he link on the video clickable. Put your link in the bottom of the description and instruct viewers to click on it after watching.

You can use the Annotations feature in YouTube to direct viewers to click on your LIVE link/s (I have 3) in the right hand 'more info' box e.g.

"Click on the right now for 5 more ways to stop acne today -------->>>>"

With a bit of fiddling, your annotation box arrow should line up with your link/s.

You can choose if you want the annotation to run for the whole video or just once or several times.

CAVEAT: You MUST have http:// before your links in 'more info' or they will not be live (This is the video description in setup by the way). See one of my sample videos using this Annotation feature:

Another option is to superimpose a big arrow to the right and a call to action on the actual video BUT if you are mass distributing (e.g. through Tubemogul or TrafficGeyser), this right pointing arrow will be irrelevant on other sites with different page layouts.

PM me if you need more info.

      Hope this helps.

I agree, you have to boldly stick that URL in the face of the viewer with a highly compelling reason to make them go directly to your site.

The best is a large watermark on the video with a free offer at your site included.
