I guess urgency works... but...

I just visited a sales page where I know they have been selling this (thing) since at least 2006 , maybe earlier. They show "Only 29 left! " LOL , on another sales page for the exact thing... "only 3 left"

Recently I ordered another "thing" and the sales page had "Only 14 left" a couple of days after my order it still said "only 14 left" Now I know these are not updated or accurate but I wonder how many people watch that then decide not to order.

Bit of a joke if you ask me. I never go by that. Who limits their sales of a digital product anyway?

Lots and lots of people do. Mainly for those who actually have something important and fantastic to show, they want to make sure it gets exposure, but not too much.

      Limiting to 500 makes urgency.

Plus, when those 500 are gone, they're gone!

Those who wanted it, will stick close and keep an eye on you to see if you've got something else up your sleeve.

Its marketing my man. What customers missed out now, they'll want to be in on the next thing.

Its also why I offer a 'reservation' of so many that WILL get it, regardless of the 500 or whatever limit I may place.

I pay attention to things like this.

If they'll lie about the # sold or the reason behind the urgency, they'll lie about other things too.

I've heard a couple "gurus" brag about how a little lie has made them money before. Don't give them your money - they're just as likely to lie to you for personal profit.

You should use urgency in your sales copy, but make sure it's legitimate!

As a buyer, you should realize that Urgency is a tactic and you should make sure you don't buy anything unless you need it right now and you know exactly how you're going to use it. Most of the time, things get cheaper after they've been out for a while and if it's successful, other people will copy it and teach it too. Nearly always, you'll be able to get it or something as good when you actually need it and know how you'll use it.

So you are really not going to sell your product to guy number 501? How do you determine how many copies of a product are too many? 50, 100, 500, 1000?

With some products, such as limited PLR, the value of the product is limited quantities. Buyers don't want something hundreds of other people or more will have. They want something exclusive to them, or, baring that, something that only a limited number of people will have.

So, if someone is selling a PLR pack and saying they're limiting it to 50 buyers, but they are really selling hundreds of copies, that's not right at all. The buyers are not getting what is promised and what they are paying for: limited copies.

I found an affiliate product that I was very interested in promoting. It has a pretty good CB gravity.

But when I read the sales page, the number of copies left is 3. Weeks have passed, and the copies left remain at 3.

The guy could have made some decent bucks from my promotion, but I decided not to do it because the offer was deceptive.

Get a program like DL guard or just set up the amount on paypal that can buy the product. Use limiting abilities with your software to keep people from 'buying' after its 'sold out'.

Or you can run it for a pure 24 hours and then remove the buy-link afterwards. Simple stuff.

As for how do you find out how many is too many?

well, how many people do you really want using your money-making techniques?

I run into the same situation sometime back and decided not to fall for such tricks.
If you are going to use numbers, at least have the decency to update it or
find a way to make it automatic.
It does not make sense, if you ask me.

An easy way to have genine scarcity/urgency is to have a bonus of a free teleseminar each month. Every month you can limit it to the cheapest teleseminar line, so saying only 200 or 500 spots available is the truth.

And since all the customers will be new, you can even do the same teleseminar every month.

There are scripts that count down how many products are sold, so just to be objective *maybe* no one else has bought the product you did after you bought it?
