Buy Facebook likes, good or wrong idea?

Hello,
I was wondering, I am an intern for a new association which want to be more visible on Facebook.
Right now we only have a few likes (around 30 likes), but we are considering to buy "likes",but we are not sure if it is a good idea.
Indeed Is it better to have a lot of likes even though there a not affiliate with our sector, or the higher "likes" the better.

    The main value of this is to build social proof. I say do it, but keep it close to earth: that is, but 800 likes rather than 18,000, especially if your niche is fairly refined.
