Default What is The Best Way To Track? Or is it Important?

I have just completed my report, planning on making up some banners, writing some articles, setting up a WSO for sales and affiliates and making some websites for backlinks to feed my landing page. I am not trying PPC just yet but I am planning on it.

Then it dawned on me.

How will I know where the sale came from without tracking?
How will I know what works and what doesn't?

So can anyone tell me the best way to set up and do tracking for all the different ways I will be sending it?

I really REALLY need to know this quickly so any information would be great.

Thanks
Kelvin

Hey Kelvin,

It sounds like you're looking for something like Prosper202.com, it's FREE, and it especially works well with PPC, although I'm not positive about the exact kind of tracking you're looking for.
Hope this helps!

Man do I feel stupid! I have many other sites, all of which have analytics on them and I couldn't think of it myself???? LOL I must have had a brain fart!

Spent too much time in front of this computer over the past 3 days getting this thing ready I guess.

anyway thanks everyone for jarring my head. I needed that!

Yes, it's definitely important There are a ton of ways to track and usually everyone has their own preferences but since you need to do this quickly I'll give you what I think is the simplest way to achieve this.

Drew is right; prosper is fantastic but if you're new to tracking, starting there may do you more harm than good.

So, what I'd recommend is:

1) Go set up an free account at Hypertracker dot com - You can upgrade the account later but you certainly don't need to.

2) Set up an individual campaign for everything you want to track.
So you might have 1 campaign for "top banner" and another for "articles"

3) Next, in the campaign you specify what link you want it to direct to. (Note: you can enter more than one link here and it will evenly rotate them - great for testing offers)

So for the "article" campaign you might put in a clickbank hoplink with a tracking id of "articles" - then once you create it, you'll be given a hypertracker link to use. This is what you send traffic to (or can cloak it with a redirect)

All the stats will be shown in your hypertracker cpanel, so you can see exactly where all the traffic came from. Then you can go into clickbank or whatever payment processor you're using and see what traffic is converting.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them here.

Thank you Robert. This is the kind of tracking I think I need. Will this system also track WHERE my visitors are coming from?

You need something like Adtrackz. I bought it a few years back.
Adtrackz Special Offer

The one I really like that shows you all the search phrases you've been found for is Advance Logger. They install it for free too. I have it on most of my sites. Advance Logger - Web Site Stats and Traffic Reporting

Hope that helps.

Well, you can see what source they are coming from based on what you label your campaign. So in other words, you can go into your hypertracker and see exactly how many visits you had from articles, banners...etc. It's all based on what you label the campaigns.

I think that's what you mean but if you if I'm mistaken and you mean "where" as in what state or what part of the country, then no Hypertracker doesn't tell you that. Google Analytics would be best for that.

Hope that helps buddy.

Yeah, it can be a little confusing. How it works is when you sign up you have a 2 week trial of the paid version (unlimited campaigns + additional features) but you don't have to supply a CC# to get started - and when the two weeks are up you can only have a limited number of campaigns. I think it's somewhere around 5-10.
