What are things you wish you had known when starting out in internet marketing?

Hi there,

I am extremely new to all forms of internet marketing, and I was just wondering whether some of the experienced members of this forum who have found success with internet what they wish they had known when just starting out.

    Oh gosh...I don't even know where to start...I could probably list 100 things, but I'm just going to list my top 3 things that I wish I had started doing from day 1 (which was back in 2008).

    1. Focus on building a list & optimizing my sales funnel.

    When I first got started online, I fell into the trap of thinking that traffic was everything, and the more traffic I could send to my affiliate offers, the more money I would make. I didn't really care about my sales funnel, and did not build a list...what a waste of time. Build a list from day 1.

    2. Build relationships with other internet marketers.

    It is amazing how your business can take off when you make strategic alliances with other internet marketers. I have a few people now that I trust & email weekly to seek advice, and they do the same with me.

    3. Build a damn website.

    Doesn't have to be pretty...but you need to be building your list, and you do not need to try & do it on a free platform such as Blogger or Squidoo. Buy your own domain, invest in hosting, and set things up the right way...you are starting a business after all.

    To Not be so gosh darn afraid to Actually make a difference on the internet.

    For example, At one point, The Instability of Search Engine Rankings terrified me to no end.

    - I used to be so upset whenever my site would lose a few notches in the search engines. But everyone that's been around long enough knows that Google's algo is changing constantly. There's never anything to fear except fear itself.

    I wish I had 10,000 when I first started so that I can purchase some good sites and then some software to make my work more easier.

    I wish I had known about free resources like this site. I also wish I had known about all the ways to make money online and been in a better position to know which one suited me and then I could have stuck at one thing without flitting from one idea to another. Good luck
