[Mod Request] Who owns WSOxtreme.com?

I want to know who owns wsoxtreme.com, and/or who among us (if anyone else) may have received ads from them without having bought anything through them.

Call it a double-check...

Paul

Edit: Corrected spelling. The one I'm looking for is missing an 'e' in the domain name... My apologies to the owners of the legit version, with three e's.

Yup - thought I recognised the name. I have them - in my junk folder. I'm 100% certain I never signed up.

      Craig,

Dammit. I screwed up the spelling. The one I want is missing an 'e' in the domain name.

      wsoxtreme.com.

The from address on the emails is matt@wsoxtreme.com

It's active. Whatever is happening there is happening behind the scenes. Might just exist so there's a legit address to receive email.

I asked at the Reply-To where they got my address, and why my previous unsub had not worked. No response, no bounce. And a lot more than the CAN-SPAM required 10-day unsub limit.

    Seems they've been going straight

  • Also I got a lot of emails from this WsoXtreme, but probably there are two cases.
I think our buyer emails were stealed or sold by someone just here on WSO, because this is no the unique case. Every day I find new email from people I never known in my WF mail address.

    It's sad but it happens.

    See you soon,

      Alessandro,

Yep. It sucks, and it's too common. Which is why I'm asking. IF I'm right about what I think is happening, we may be able to start slowing that stuff down, and forcing some of it into channels that spam filters will nuke before we ever have to see it.

And, just maybe, discourage a few people from "sharing" lists.

I'm sure the "offending" person is using one of the WF-friendly affiliate programs, so there is likely a money-trail there.

On the other hand, I'd be a little upset if any of these programs gave out any info about that person, as it would be a breach of privacy IMO.

But...They could have their accounts suspended.

I have been getting them, as well. I always have gotten two at a time. The way my email account is set up, it could be that they are being sent to two different email addresses.

One thing I've noticed is in the salutation(for at least one copy of an email I received), it used a modified version of my username here. That implies to me that the information "Matt" has was taken from a membership type site, and not just a mailing list.

I'll start saving anything else I get.

Paul, I'd contact Donald VanFossen and Jeremy Kelsall.

I wouldn't want to mistakenly say someone is a spammer, so here is my trail of research you can duplicate, re-check, and use as a base for more research:

wsoxtreme.com has a private whois but is hosted at 1and1 and was registered through enom.

Running wsoxtreme.com through several websites that show all sites on the same IP has some interesting results.

(you want to use several same IP sites since false hits are common)

Looking for Internet marketers domains, and in particular someone with WF familiarity given the posts by Warriors saying they have also received emails, several domains listing Jeremy and Don's names come back as hits.

For instance: coachingwithdonandjeremy.com - which is also hosted at 1and1 and was also registered through enom.

A spot check on another domain on the same IP that looks like it would be from an IM'er - 123freepenisenlargement.com, has a whois record for Don and the site is hosted at 1and1 and was registered through enom.

Since Don is listed as the registrant for these other domains, I would contact him first.

(unfortunately, the 123freepenisenlargement.com site appears to be a spam site, so no bonus from this research of making the women extra happy)

    Brian,

I hear ya. That's why I'm asking. At best, there's a problem here with unsubscribes saying they worked and not actually working. Possibly a technical glitch, but I also got no response from the Reply-to address.

Don and Jeremy both have legitimate reasons to have me on lists. Given that, and the popularity of 1and1, I'm not forming any conclusions yet.

Thanks. Helpful stuff, and a good example for folks of how many ways there are to find things online.

    Kurt,
On the other hand, I'd be a little upset if any of these programs gave out any info about that person, as it would be a breach of privacy IMO.

Paul, I received several emails from that sender (matt@WSOxtreme.com) as well and I have never subscribed to or purchased anything from that domain. I can't recall if there was an unsubscribe option or not, but if there was, it didn't work. I finally had to just block the domain so the emails would stop. I didn't save the emails, though.

I've received many spam emails from similiar domains (i.e. WSO_______.com) and it has gotten very annoying. They almost always have my first and last name, so I don't know where they are getting the information.

Just wanted to add, I have purchased from Don and Jeremy in the past (it's been a long time), but they have always clearly identified themselves in their emails. Also, to their credit, they have never bombarded me with a ton of offers like some do once you buy from them.

I've been getting email from WSOxtreme for awhile now. Paul, is
that the one that has your name in the From:? But it's not you.

I have no idea who it is or if I did at onetime subscribe to something.

I also get a lot of emails from people sending me to WSO's
whos' list I know I did not sign up for, a lot of them are using
Inmica mail, I proably spelled that wrong.

I get mail from warriors and non-warriors that I know I have
unsubscribed from. Some of them stop for awhile and then
start up again. Some of them just don't stop.

Plus I get about 500 to 600 spam emails per day.

What I'm really finding interesting is that someone sold my name to a
list from a webinar that I signed up for. The way I know is by the
way I sign up for webinars. The webinar was more than likely
        put on by a warrior.

I don't unsubscribe anymore, I just mark it as spam and move on.

Not the only one. When I receive spam via an emailing service (eg AWeber) or promoting affiliate products (ClickBank) I will file a complaint with the service. They tend to be effective in getting accounts banned.

For other spammers I may create a filter which forwards the email back to them (and the person in charge of their website) and deletes it off my server. In a few instances this has been amazingly effective.

The problem with unsubscribes is that (1) they confirm the email address is valid, and (2) unscrupulous sellers will not only sell the unsubscribed email requests but they will recycle them to more of their lists so you can never really unsubscribe.

Ultimately, if you can confirm the idiot is in the US and you (like me) happen to be in California, a little notice about California's spam law and the fact California courts award damages does tend to get the message through.

I am just curious why it bothers you?

I think I know why you made an assumption.

I think you are assuming that when I said, "I mark it as spam"
you think I am telling aweber or getresponse or all of
the other services that it is spam.

If that's what you thought no, no, no my friend.
You see today I have a button on my email client
that let's me mark it as spam and I never have to
      see it again.

I am a firm believer in not bitching about it
because if to many people bitch as crappy as email
maybe it's the best marketing tool on the planet
and I would like to keep it around.

My email client is Thunderbird I do use IMAP, not POP so it does reside on the server, but it is only reporting to my server. So it is keeping track on my server only.

    Chris,

I got one yesterday from a domain I'd never heard of. Opened it, and the guy waited to the end to tell me who he was. Turns out it was someone I've bought a few things from, and he was getting all his lists together under one umbrella. Looked like spam, right up until I saw his name.

    Ooops.

This is why I'm careful about jumping to conclusions without checking.

Not to mention the missing 'e', which tripped me up when I typed it rather than copying and pasting from the original email.

In most of these spam WSO emails I've been receiving, there's ONLY the first name of a person at the end (e.g. "Tom", "Joe", etc.) - so I have NO idea who they are and I don't recognize the domain. So, they are marked and treated as spam.

I've got a pretty good memory for the names of people from whom I've bought WSOs in the past (and I buy very few any more). Some of them send emails regarding WSOs as well, but I recognize who it's from (because they either identify themselves fully or (and almost always) they use the same email address that they normally use) and it's no big deal (unless they send too many, and then I quickly unsubscribe).

However, IF by chance any of these are from them (which I highly doubt), and they've changed their domain / email address, then they need to put their first AND last name in their new emails (at least at first) so their list knows the emails are from them and not a spammer. I mean, who would have thought there is actually more than one Tom or Joe in the world?!!

Got a notification in Google alerts with this thread...

I ran a reseller script on the 1and1 hosting account for years. Old CGI scripts...

The asshole who setup that site has been banned.

Scripts deactivated, email lists deleted, etc...

Now talking to namecheap about removing the domain as well.

The script running made it possible to run shared hosting on
a 1and1 account as if it was a reseller account.

Also to register domain names etc...

To make a long story short...

The name registered for the account was: Ahmad Izudin (Indonesia)

        Far from Matt...

All their crap has been deleted though... so until they have a domain
somewhere else. You shouldn't be hearing from them.

        They/he/she/it have been officially smacked...

There were 47k+ emails in there...

        On a side note...

Yeah I have about 15 different "WSO" domains that email me
like everyone else has been getting. Like ProWSO, WarriorPlusWSO,
hell I don't know who half of them are lol.

But I know you won't be hearing from wsoxtreme anymore.

Anyone sees anything else from that domain, or has any questions etc... email me at: don AT supermarketingpro.com

Also, on the Don and Jeremy reference. We dissolved that partnership and went our separate ways almost 6 months ago. So we actually don't work together anymore.

Our original lists we both have a copy of... I believe Jeremy now uses GetResponse or Constant Contact.

I was on Aweber and just moved my lists to GetResponse, because of Aweber's poor deliverability for me.

So anytime you see an email from me it will be from GR or sent directly from me.

On the move to GR my lists were merged into 1 list...

It will also have the company info in the footer.

    Joseph,

I don't recall those as coming from wsoxtreme.com. I doubt the sender is connected with the sellers anyway, except as an affiliate. And neither of the ones I have on hand are selling through W+. One's JV zoo and the other DigiResults.

    Don,

Thanks. I suspected there was something odd behind it.

If that one backed up his list, we'll hear from him again. Especially if the list is what it looks like.

Possibly the worst project I ever had was offering hosting with an IM service - on the same hosting account I was using. Bad mistake.

The garbage and viruses on the accounts (on my server) were unbelievable. I ended up stopping the entire service. Never seen so many idiots in my life. It is no mystery to me why so many fail and why (name your major online business) is quick to ban IM accounts.

Heh yeah that 1and1 account I never look at anymore either. I think every blog I ever had hosted on that account got hacked at some point lol. It just sits there and gathers dust anymore.

I guess they are finally migrating these old accounts to something newer. So 90% of probably what is on there will be broke anyway after that lol. So many old cgi scripts and php4 scripts all over.

That account I think was created back in 2002. Just never felt like moving domains and all that crap. I found a lot of stuff actually spending some time going through the files in a lot of the directories on there that I completely forgot about.

Even found a picture of the xray from having plate and screws put in my leg years ago in one directory LOL.

I've been getting spammed by this guy, too. I'm glad to hear he is going away now.
