Heads up: the new version of Camtasia Studio screen capture and editing suite has shipped.

I've been on the beta team and I'll just say that the improvements in this new version are massive.

Literally every pet peeve I had about Camtasia 7 has been addressed and my list of "irritations" is now pretty small and petty...

In addition to that, something that Techsmith has never done before:

Thanks Lon. Must hand it to Techsmith because they do seem to add marketable features with each upgrade.

The biggest issue I had with Camtasia 7 is that when recording longer videos, it became quite a hog on resources. In fact, because my business was making videos, that very recurring problem was one of the reasons I bought an iMac and start using ScreenFlow. :-) I just wonder if Techsmith has addressed such issues?

And it's about time they offer a discount because at $299, I always felt it over-priced. (I think they did too, since the Mac version only costs $99)..

Anyway, for the time being I will probably stay with Camtasia 7 since I do all of my editing on my Macs anyway now. I really only use Camtasia when I need to record a PC program that does not have a Mac version. But will still look forward to your Camtasia reviews Lon.

  Ya Marty...I feel ya! I used to go insane editing hour long webinar recordings. And the more edits you did (and I edit a LOT), the slower it got.
  
  Some of the BEST features of CS8 are under the covers. The screen capture codec (TSC 2 replacing the TSCC) is all new...blazing fast, smooth, and with smaller file sizes to boot.
  
  The problems with resources you mentioned are handled big time. The app is now multi-threaded, and actually USES whatever computer resources you have...right down to the chip level (i.e. the processor on your graphics card. Get a monster card, get monster performance). Have more RAM and/or more CPU cores? Get better performance...
  
  Previews are smooth...scrubbing works in real-time...quite a nice piece of work.

Lon, can you expound on the improvements or link to a page that lists the changes?

There are a couple things I would upgrade over in a heartbeat if they fixed them.

One big gripe I've had is that on longer pieces, the visual waveform and true audio/video would get out of sync. I rely heavily on the visual waveform to make edits. The only fix I could find, and it was somewhat temporary, was closing down and restarting the project.

Can you comment on this?

I took the dive but the screen recorder doesn't work for me.
It just shuts down the main window and nothing happens??

I submitted a ticket and look forward to getting this resolved.

I was due for an upgrade and hopefully this would solve some
of my gripes with my older version.

75% smaller file sizes. Nice.

The cumulative edit lag about drove me batty at times also. Glad they've dealt with that. I think I'm sold.

  When I went to upgrade to V8 there was an option for a Maintenance Agreement.
  
  Is this something new?
  
  I recall periodically getting upgrades for previous versions - without having a Maintenance Agreement.

Too bad they didn't offer PayPal as a payment option. A little easier to pay with when it comes to things like this in my opinion.

I'm coming to this thread a bit late, but, is it possible to upgrade to Camtasia 8 single user on top of Camtasia 7 Multi-user? I'd hate to go through the hassle of finding out it wouldn't take.
