Video Membership Sites

Hello all,

Has anyone done one of these? How does one balance the monthly amount to charge with the video content? To me, serving video could get expensive.

TIA

Haven't done one but speaking from a consumer's point of view unless there is something awfully special and rare about your video, I'd bypass it and go to YouTube

These would be instruction videos mostly on working with software that is difficult to configure or use. The idea was to have a good number of videos (for the sake of value) - but - if you have a high number of videos, then the cost to serve them could get high. So - was just wondering how one has done such a balancing act ...

  • I host videos on amazon and use easy video player and LFM to protect the content. If you don't protect your videos that you host on amazon some one will scrape the content and then your hard work will be given away for free all over the internet.

Thanks for the info. Do you host as a membership service or do you have your customers pay for each video?

  • membership - You are talking about charging people each time they download a video? Your cost per download would be peanuts.

I was thinking about charging one monthly fee and letting them have access to all the videos in the library. I thought that while it would be good for the customer, it could get expensive for me

Hi, just visited your and you like auto play 4 videos at the same time. How do you get visitors to watch all the videos the same time?

Dito on using Amazon S3. I currently use the S3Flowshield plugin for Wordpress which has made it a cinch to setup & protect. Before that it was playing with massive lines of code for one video. Plugins are easier!

For a paid video membership site?

It's going to cost you a few pennies a month to serve video to a single user. So if you charge more than a few pennies a month you have nothing to worry about.

Heck Amazon s3 only charges 12 cents per gig and unless you are serving up some unnecessarily uncompressed video... you are not going to go broke serving it :-)

This is one of the great benefits of charging for your content... now if you are giving your content away for free and people are gobbling it up by the hundreds of thousands... then just host it on youtube as unlisted and make them pay for your hosting ;-)

Unless it is not available on Youtube and you have really good material, you wont get success with Video sites.
