Why I Love Classified Ads

This is a short but sweet thread all about classified ads hope anyone can benefit from it.

1. They are so easy to use almost anyone can create a targeted ad to their website, free offer etc in no time at all.

2. It's FREE (In most cases) but not all sites are as good as the next unless you pay.

3. You can go back again and again by just tweaking your ad title slightly each time.

4. You already know that people looking within them are already interested in what you have to offer giving you that time well spent feeling.

There you have it, why not give them a try and test to see which Classified Ad sites work out best for you and your business.

All the best!
Gavin

I used classified sites a couple of years back in promoting affiliate products. During that time, classified auto posters were popular. Results for me were so so. I think it depends on what you're offering and the classified site that you're targeting. There are several out there but only a few are really worth submitting to such as Craiglist, Backpage and Kijiji.

    Anyways, thanks for the info!

I've used local [both offline and online] classifieds ads to promote seasonal coupon sites and its always paid off quite well for me. I've only only targeted two holidays, Valentines Day and Halloween. Never bothered with any other niches.

Yes, classified ads are the easiest way to start internet marketing and get traffic.

With classified ads, you could get free targeted traffic in very short time... So, what else do you need?

Every newbies should start their internet marketing venture with classified ads. The learning curve and barrier to enter is low.

Every time I hear the term "classified ads" I think of that guy with the infomercials who says he mad a fortune with them. Well, the correct term was "tiny classified ads". LOL!

I'm surprised they are still effective. This is something worth looking more into. Thank you for sharing this gcbmark20!

When I first start doing Web Service for offline businesses I got most of my business from craigslist.

If you're still nervous about the phone, this is a good way to get started and get a few clients.

      Hi Damasgate,

I've tried to post an ad on Craiglist but was not able to get my phone (landline) verified, and I've emailed the Help desk but never got a response. Is there a way to get around it? Thanks much.

Yea, Craigslist is pretty awesome. You could basically sell or buy anything on that site. This is actually where I get most of my jobs.
And yea most importantly it's free.

I've got mixed feelings on using classified ads...

Don't get me wrong - I've found great tickets
at center ice for a hockey game on Craigslist
but have not mediocre results with pulling big
    clients.

I actually did a paid classified in a wildly popular
business magazine that had a distro of about
650,000 (or so they told me).

I received about a little over a dozen calls with only
a few conversions. I didn't lose money, and essentially
educated those who were inept about SEO for free
because they never ended up buying. Lesson learned...

Really, there are a few things that you must do (in my own experience) in order to have success with classified ads.

This one little tip has increased my traffic substantially with classified ads, and that is putting an IMAGE in your ad! I'm not talking about some crappy image, but at the same time it doesn't have to cost you a fortune either (I got an image designed over @ fiverr).

Make sure that the image is clickable, and that it goes straight to the website/offer/affiliate link that you are promoting. This one tip will help you out a ton...

You're right; this makes a HUGE difference in conversions on classified ad sites. This is what I do, too. Those folks with the software that can post on hundreds of classified websites most likely can't put an image in their ads but it is well worth it. I'd recommend manual posting with images instead of the "software sweep" thing.

    Agreed.

    I think we know that.

    3. You can go back again and again by just tweaking your ad title slightly each time.

So you basically mean spam. In other words to get free ads after your first free quota is used up by by-passing the Terms and Conditions with subtle alterations to your ad (I'm referring specifically to Gumtree here as you're in the UK . . . and I doubt if I'm wrong). Your sort make multiple posts and spoil it hugely for the genuine single post advertisers on classifieds sites, so we are quite often subject to 'processing' delays as a result of multi posting spammers like you.

    4. You already know that people looking within them are already interested in what you have to offer giving you that time well spent feeling.

Still spam, whichever way you look at it.

There you have it, why not give them a try and test to see which Classified Ad sites work out best for you and your business.

And there YOU have it. A spammy loser trying to tell other folk how to be the same. You'll always be the equivalent of a small hick-town crook whilst you waste valuable time trying to scam classifieds websites. Far better (certainly for your long term IM future if you want one) to get a grip on reality and offer something substantial that's not dependant upon trying to bypass classifieds sites terms and rules. There's a hundred better things you could be utilising your time with more beneficially within IM.

    Your smug comments don't help.

    All the best!
    Gavin

There's a lot more to IM than classifieds, without spam in your diet.

Just gone onto Craigslist TOA and they say that you shouldn't post ads which are not city specific on them - so I'm assuming that I couldn't advertise my weight loss blog on there as I don't live in one of the cities that Craigslist covers. Anybody got any feedback on this? Are they strict on this policy? If so, that kinda narrows down what you can advertise there.

Craiglist is in a class by itself, but most classified ads sites
are not worth the time investment. You'll see littel results
except you have a premium paid ad at the top of the listings
so you get traffic from other posters in your category.

When I started first I used these sites as well, but you

The problematic nature of classified marketing is that in many instances quite simply you're violating terms of service.

Sure, it's easy to justify many things or overlook, but are your ads being ghosted and removed? Just food for thought. IE "This isn't really spam" - "This isn't really MLM / make money/ affiliate promotion"

There's no doubt as to the profitability on posting stuff on different classified markets (first hand knowledge); I also concur that ignorance is bliss (regarding the justification of unwanted ads) however I typically try to avoid violating TOS; instead I rely upon paid traffic.

    Call me a fickle feeb.

I use to generate leads for CPA offers, but most of the times people don't do it i the right way, because they don't collect the email address of the prospects and send them directly to the offer.

Any way, as many of you have said outside Craigslist, and Kijiji the other places don't have enough traffic to be considered or maybe I have not been able to make them work.
