New Blog - How Many Articles Should I Post?

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to this so please bare with my ignorance . I just started a new blog on Wordpress and I haven't published anything yet. I still have a couple of things that I need to do, but I should be up by the end of the week. My question is, I have about 25 articles that are ready to be published, so how should I go about doing this? Should I post one article per day or should I post multiple articles per day? I don't want my site to be bare when visitors swing by so I was curious how I should go about this. Thanks.

Go ahead and publish one a day. This helps train Google to come spider your site regularly, and gives you 25 days to get more content ready to go up.

In fact, you might just want to do one every other day.

The question is, how are you planning to get traffic to your site once the articles start showing up? SEO? Article marketing? Forum Marketing?

Also, make sure the articles are as good as you can make them before posting them up.

Hey Dan, thanks for the reply. I was going to use forum marketing, article marketing, guests posts, guest commenting.

My next questions is, at what point do I start trying to market and drive traffic to my site? I ask this because if I'm only posting one article every other day, then my site will pretty much be bare with the exception of a few articles I posted. Do I want people to visit my blog if I only have a couple articles posted?

The points that Daniel made are very true and I would go with that if I was you.

Also you need to bear in mind how often you're going to be updating this blog after you've published these 25 articles the thing with blogging is to be consistent so your readers and Google get to know how regularly you update your blog if you update it every day then you are going to need to really stick to that.

This is why you might be better off doing what Daniel said and posting every other day!

But this is really up to you and how active you're going to be with this blog!

Teedubyah, you could (a lot of marketers would say "should") re-cycle your posts, after they've been up several days and you know they're indexed, and this will help build your traffic. Some ideas:

    - Re-write, add in some facts, maybe take some things out, and submit to ezinearticles.com

    - Combine two or three of your most popular posts, add some content, and use as your giveaway to build a list.

    - Re-write, combine with photos, and use as a WEb 2 (Squidoo, HubPages, etc) pointing to your site

    - Convert a popular post into a video, put it up on YouTube and other vid sharing sites

    - Re-slant the content of a post for another site in a niche close to your's as a guest blog

There are probably many more good ways to recycle your best content...these are just 5 that have worked well for us.

      Good information, thanks!

Google favors fresh and unique content and also the frequency of posting. The more frequent the posting the better. Your site should have at least 30 posts and then just keep adding content regularly.

I always hear John Chow's advice in the back of my head. He posted an 1 or even 2, every single day, for a year. That is what got him so much traffic. I tried to write a blog post every day, but I ran out of things to say within about 30 days. Its tough, but would be worth it.

    Here's my take on it:

Get the first 5 up immediately, but change the dates in your Wordpress Dashboard so they look like they've been going up slightly longer, or just don't show the dates at all (you might have to modify the theme to do this).

Start promoting the site right away, and schedule the posts for one every 2 days.

Once you start to get some good traffic, you might want to slow down the posting to once or twice per week to give your readers time to consume your content. If you post too often your audience won't be able to keep up with you.

This gives you plenty of time to write more awesome posts and schedule them out, do guest posting, etc.

Remember the movie "Julie and Julia" about her blog which chronicled her daily experiences cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and she later began reworking that blog, The Julie/Julia Project.

Her popularity grew as she consistently updated her writing daily.

I'm in agreement with Dan, post 3 - 5 pre-dated articles and load the rest of them up and schedule them for every 2 or 3 days. Make sure you alter the time of publishing a little too.

The will effectively give you about 2 months worth of content.
