As stated above, the old methods still work well if done right, infact a wso today I purchased is a fantastic tool for free traffic with a large variety if methods which are explained in detail! If done properly a lot of the old methods still work very well.

Hey David welcome to the forum. If you have a camcorder, i seriously recommend you going on Youtube and start posting videos there. Stick to forum marketing and start a blog also. Article directories will resurrect themselves in the future.

I have a couple methods on my blog. But you can find little clever ways to drive traffic without paying.

For the youtube route you can type your keyword in youtube and copy all the tags and create a similar title as the top ranking videos. This will throw you into the related videos on the right sidebar.

You can leave a comment on a youtube and leave your link (dot) com. and pay some ppl .10 cents at microworkers to thumbs up your comment. So that it looks like ppl are cosigning your site. (havent tried this yet but seems like a good idea)

You can find your forums in your niche and begin forum marketing. (tip on my blog)

You can submit your site to Stumbleupon if its not a hard sell. If it gets many "thumbs ups" it will go into rotation more often.

You can buy cheaper traffic than Google using Adcenter. They are easy to get an account with and use any link you like. I used a poll method on the Zimmerman Trayvon case asking if they thought Zimmerman was innocent or guilty. They were then forwarded to my offer. Though I didnt convert at all on that one. And the poll was about 50/50 innocent vs guilty lol.

Some interesting ideas. Do you think paid traffic is better than running around trying to attract free traffic. Maybe I should concentrate on doing some freelance work until I have saved up enough to pay for a campaign.
What does everybody think?

try blog commenting, the higher quality your comment, the more likely people will want to see what else you offer/site

Both Free Methods & Paid Methods should be use to attract constant traffic to your website, there is no best traffic generation method, but I suggest you implement your traffic driving methods one by one in an consistent basis.

Try Craigslist Classified, I can't say it's the best traffic generation, but worth to endeavor, moreover, it's FREE.

What niche is your website in? That can be a large factor in deciding what traffic methods to pursue.

But in general you could try methods such as;

1. Posting videos on YouTube with a link back to your website.
2. Guest post for a blog in your niche.
3. Forum commenting with a link in your signature.

It is a niche within a niche for housebound people working from home.
Disabled, mental health issues like agoraphobia (from which I suffer myself), single mums.
I having the website built as we speak, but I am also getting sponsorship to pay for part of the costs in return for a detailed business and marketing plan, which is where you lot have helped out.

SEO is a long-term war and if you don't want to or are not prepared to fight with the competition on a long-term basis, then I wouldn't do it.

Paid traffic generation is great for fast results and you can get laser targeted traffic that will be very interested in the offers you are promoting.

I would agree with matt78, for that sort of niche forum posting could generate a lot of traffic. I wouldn't rule out article marketing either - or more specifically article syndication. Search this forum for posts by Alexa Smith & you'll learn a lot more about how to do it properly.

Going by your account I'm guessing you fairly new to IM.
As soon as you can get comfortable with article writing start
guest posting.

This is where you contact other blog owners in
your niche who are looking for people to submit post to their site.

If you can bust out a great informative post that gives value, you
can receive great hits on your site. Now the blog you guest post
on has to have a nice amount of visitors.

You can find these type of blogs by doing a simple google search
like this: guest post + "your keyword" (without quotes)
write for us + "your keyword"
