How I Made $0.00 Online In 7 Days

I know you're reading this article because of my "odd" title. You must be curious and want to know the reason behind my odd title right? Let me explain.

One of the most powerful psychological triggers to persuade people is the "surprise" trigger. Surprise is an emotional response. If someone is in an emotional state, their ability to make rational decisions will be "paralyzed". When they're emotional, they're easier to persuade. That's why most people end up buying products on emotions but justify their purchase with logic later. Let me explain how to surprise people.

You can make people feel surprised by being weird, odd or strange. Let me tell you a true story. I'll frequently visit an online forum to learn interesting stuffs to expand my online business. Most of the titles of the forum posts will be like the following; "How I Made $2,900 Last Month" or "Earned $4,098 In 6 Days". Surprisingly, during one my visit to the forum, I saw a forum post with a title like the following one; "How I Made $0.23 In 24 Hours". I was surprised with the title because it's odd for someone to write posts like that. I've to admit that I was curious and immediately clicked to read it. Can you see how it works? Firstly,I was surprised. Then I was curious to find the reason behind this odd title. Finally I end up opening the forum post and read it completely. Imagine how will be the open rates for your emails of you send emails with odd subject lines. I'm sure you'll get more responses from your prospects and make more money.

"Surprise" trigger works well in viral marketing. It will spread instantly to others as fast as possible. I already mentioned above that if you want to surprise people, you've to do something odd. That's why most viral marketing campaigns consist of odd stuff. Let me give you an example. How will you respond if you saw a guy with a woman's lingerie on his head on the street? I'm sure you'll be surprised and end up laughing because it's an odd behavior right? Then you might share the odd behaviour with your friends. Eventually, the news will become viral and spread like wildfire.

This technique always works and will bring you more money if you applied it in your marketing campaigns. That's why I wrote an odd title for this article and caught your attention. This is one of the best techniques to steal your prospect's attention, get them hooked and hungrily read your marketing copy without missing a piece.

    Great job! Now wash...rinse...and repeat!

    J/K

    I believe this point has been brought up a few times before here, but nevertheless, it's a good tip and I am sure it will help people.

    Another point that's usually brought up in a thread with that type of headline, is that in order to make $xx in xx amount of time, one must take action!

    If you don't focus, don't take action and don't do any real work...then $0.00 in 7 days or even 24 hours is very easy to accomplish!

    Best,
    Shane

    It is true what you are saying, as I have opened your thread and read it. The only thing I will say, whatever you write in your subject line, you must back up. There is nothing more annoying than reading a subject only to find the contents of the email etc completely irrelevant. Interesting post though.

    It reminds me of a thread posted on here just the other week where one particular internet marketing said in his subject line.. 'XXX is in hospital'. Of course, the person who he was referring to wasn't in hospital. He was merely trying to grab peoples attention. It seemed on this occassion that all he managed to achieve were a high volume of 'unsubscribes'.

    I guess this tactic needs a little bit of thought before rushing in and trying to get attention in a flase manner.

      Yes.You're right. It might backfire if the relevance of the subject line and the contents are zero.

      I think that definitely works in a lot of niches, however my niche is a health subject and I don't think odd behaviour would get me anywhere. I want customers to feel that I am serious. Maybe there is a way, I havn't figured it out so far.

      Thanks tho, good post.

        No matter what NICHE that you're in, this technique will work.
        How about writing a headline like this:

        "7 Steps To Gain 10 Pounds In 7 Days?"-GUARANTEED

        Then you write down all the "TIPS" in 7 steps;
        Example:
        Step 1
        Eat a lot of oily food
        Step 2
        Never Exercise
        And so on..

        Then at the bottom write a P.S like the following one:
        P.S:"If You Wana Know The Secret To Lose 10 Pounds In 7 Steps Click here {www.yourdomain.com}

        or

        right after the 7 Steps write another headline:

        "How To Lose 10 Pounds In 7 Days"
        {Share your tips and introduce your product or domain}

        or
        "How I Lose 10 Pounds In 7 Days"
        {A case study or story}

        Headline like the one above will steal your visitors attention as it's WEIRD for someone to write headline like that.It'll trigger them to read it. At the same time, people will giggle or laugh at your contents as it's funny too.When people are laughing or giggling,automatically they'll be in an emotional state.Getting people to get emotional is one of the key element of persuasion.

    The title has nothing to do with surprise but more to do with calling upon a particular market segment within the niche.

    People who clicked are in a few camps; those who are experienced and willing to help the OP in need; those who share similar experiences and want comfort from knowing that they are not the only one - with the benefit of support from their peers; Those who are curiosity seekers.

    I suspect that the majority will be those who share similar experiences to the thread title.

    I would recommend Triggers by Joe Sugarman if anyone is interested in delving into the psychological responses of your prospects and customers. Google it and you'll find it.

    If someone started a thread that went something like this:

    "To All Newbies...."
    "To All Warriors over the Age of 35..."
    "To All Single Mothers/Fathers..."

    You'll find that the clickthrough rate will skyrocket because you're calling upon a very specific market segment and also, you'll get the curiosity seekers/info junkies who have a fear of loss so they don't want to be left out of what might be great information.

    In the same manner, "How I" starts to tell a personal story which the reader is interested in because they too want to identify with the struggle/success and also find out how to go about acheiving a happy ending - no jokes about happy endings please

        I want to echo what AndyBlackSEO wrote above. Recently I've received e-mails from IM marketers and the subject line has been totally and completely misleading. All that has done is to destroy any trust whatsoever I had in this person that has been writing me. I also want to respond to yves. I agree with you that in the healthcare field you want to appear very professional. In my real life I do a lot of marketing in healthcare. The point of this thread is twofold, first surprise and then second curiosity. I think there would be a way to write a headline that generated curiosity and still keep it professional and is healthcare related. I don't know what your niche is, I'm just thinking that curiosity and surprise phrased the right way, and kept professional, might still be a good tactic for you to get people to pay attention to your message.
