Basically you need to identify who your Target Audience are, then you need to find out where your Target Audience hangs out...

When you've established this you connect the dots and divert as much of this TA towards your optin page - this can be done either by paid or free methods.

Free methods will take a lot of time to take effect whereas paid traffic sources can deliver fast results.

If you have a budget for purchasing traffic then you might consider purchasing banner ads on relevant blogs, forums etc. (Places where you audience hangs out)

Hope that overview helps you out a little

The quickest way to build your list is using Solo Ads.

"A Solo Ad is when you (generally) pay someone to mail THEIR email list, on your behalf, with a recommendation and link to your free optin offer squeeze page."

With Solo Ads you could get a lot of opt-in in just a short time. It's quite expensive, but it's guaranteed to bring results.

To look for good solo ads providers you could use this list: Reed Floren's Solo Ad Directory

I agree. Solo ads are a quick way to build a responsive list. However, they are getting very expensive nowaday. You can also build a list with PPC or PPV. Typically these are less expensive and can net you great results. But with PPC and PPV, you have to do a little more research and targeting.

Create squeeze pages. Offer value added freebies to generate your list. You can also make YouTube videos and guide people to your blog. Once they are on your blog, ask them to sign up for your newsletter or give them that freebie.

i build my list mainly from my personal blog and solo ads

solo ads are great for building your list super fast and also your blog is a long term traffic method

you do need a converting squeeze page a quality free offer and a oto if your using solo ads

theres lots more that you will pick up along the way but that would be a good start an then you can just tweak things as you go

you dont always have to get it right just get it going

I use my blog and squeeze pages mainly through solo ads to build my list, but I also use some free methods and social networks as well.

    You can try this method:

    1. Build a squeeze page to offer a free offer such as a free ebook. You can add oto after the subscriber opt-in to your list.
    2. Buy Solo Ads. You can buy quality Solo Ads at safe-swap. There are many people with a huge list of more than 100 000 responsive subscribers across different niches and the fees are not too expensive. Buy one that has good reviews.
    3. Write a compelling email for your solo ads that will entice the readers to click onto your squeeze page url link.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with the posters above.

I have used many methods and solo ads (if you can afford to use them) do grow your list extremely fast. I find that if you reach out the the solo seller and ask them about how their list responds you can write your email copy more effectively. Sometimes they will write it for you.

I find my solo sellers here: http://soloadsblackbook.com

I have also used adswaps with decent success.

Any community that you can go into and provide any type of help will help you generate a following and potential partners.

    Good Luck!

There is one easy way to drive people to your list building page. Its putting a signature with your post. Put a link in that signature. Much like I have and many others that you have seen here. Then as you go about your internet marketing actions, like reply or ask questions you will be driving traffic to your list building page.

There are dozens of proven ways to build a list, and a lot
    depends upon the purpose etc.

One of my favorite types of lists is a list of proven buyers,
and the easiest way to build that is to get others to do it
for you by setting up your own affiliate program. That's what
many of the people who run WSO's where they offer 100%
    commission are actually doing

Your list will grow fastest if you also manage to hang on to
subscribers as you build. To do that, you have to deliver
by adding value to their lives, and meeting whatever
expectation you set to get them on your list in the first
    place.

Thanks Robin! You beat me to it this morning. It's funny...I always read the threads anyways because I'm learning list-building...and they look almost exactly the same as this one. I wonder if everyone just goes to the thread from the day before, copies their answer, and pastes it into the new thread?

    Hi Daddy 2,

I would put it this way.

1-Good relevant content first and foremost.
2- Targeted content- Answer your audience's question, issues etc.
3- Have the solution but don't give it away...Create suspense and get people to opt-in
4- Give them freebies, but quality ones! Write a short report etc. Use your own voice.
5- Once you start building a list, don't blast them everyday with emails but once every 3 days + include some personal talks (Whatever you have been doing etc)- make your list feel like they are friends, not just potential buyers!

This is what works best...to my knowledge of course and depending on what you are promoting! There is no right way to do it but there are certainly wrong ways...lol

    Hope this helps!

List building, thats one of the CORE pillars of your online business...

First think about what value you are going to offer and are people buying in that niche , Assuming you already made it this far then focus on establishing yourself as an expert giving away lots of content .

Once you have the content in place, you can work on SEO (which you can actually do from day 1 with along term goal in mind) or drive targetted traffic to your website.

The other way is giving away bonuses for other product creator's offers , so first up you have to start forming relationship with product creators, help them out in anyways possible and hopefully they allow you a back end entry.

Finally you becoming product creator and selling it either here on WF, clickbank or any other market place will get you a list of buyers immediately. hope that helps..Good luck in yourn list building efforts.

Thanks for sharing tips on building a list. I like the idea of "A Solo Ad". Going to check into that. I myself am in the process of building my own list, so the above advice has been very helpful. From my own research, I have found out that offering a free product or service on a squeeze page is a good way to build a list.

Building a list is really easy once you get traffic. Focus on building a site with killer content...I mean content that is better than everyone else in the top 10 search results on Google, and guess what? That is easy to...in most niches.

Free ways to get links back to your site:

Get a few links back to your site: Squidoo, Hubpages, Youtube.

Comment on a few blogs in your niche and link back to your site.

Get listed in a few directories, and find directories in your niche.

Submit a few articles. I say forget about submitting tons of articles that are spun. Pick the top two are three and put a unique article in there and link back to your site.

Create a facebook fan page and pinterest account and then every time you post a new article, post it to your page and pin an image from your page (but don't pin just images from your site).

There's more to do bu those are the free and easy ways to build the framework of a quality site that will reward you with traffic for years.

Work with your list to help you build your site and refer people through there network (this requires a whole course or super long article to explain).

      Paid Ways To Get Traffic:
      Facebook
      Google Adwords
      Bing/Yahoo
      Stumbleupon
      Etc.

    1) Be sure you know who your target market is
    2) Create a relevant and valuable gift for them
    3) Create a squeeze page offering that gift
    4) Drive targeted traffic to that squeeze page through Youtube, Solo Ads, Banner Ads, Forum Ads, Etc.
