Blog Commenting Question

I have started commenting on wordpress.com blogs. I have a doubt here- do I have to place my link in the website box or in the comment box ? Which will be counted as backlink?

  • in my short lived thread with the same question, I was told it should only go in the name/URL box. Blogger will do it automatically if your signed in. Not sure if WP does the same thing.

URL's in a comment box will normally get you deleted, or it just means your posting on a spammed up blog with a ton of OBL's.

edit to add: if use use the Search Status add on for Firefox, it will show you whether the links on a page are do follow or not('s).

Just place the link in the website field, placing a link in the comment is a sure fire way to have your comment rejected as spam.

Just give your link in the website section as the links given in the body of the comment are treated ad spam and are not approved by the moderator. If you want to create natural blog comments, write natural reviews and make a link on your name. Avoid using keywords instead of your name.
Google always suggest us to make natural links.

It actually depends on how you're going to place your link. If you're going to use your real name on the Name field and that link you're trying to build on the URL field, then it's all good. Just make sure that the quality of your comment is all good and not just some "thanks for the post" message. You can also put it inside the comment if you think it's going to contribute to the post, and refer to it as a support of your claim. It's best if you're just going to leave the link as is without using anchor text so that the blogger won't see your comment as a shady way of building links.

If you put yur link into comment box 90% of times you comment will be rejecetd autmatically. So definitely go for keyword in user name. To improve stickness you use "keyword + your name" like "payday loans, John Smith".

When I used to work for a self-proclaimed blackhat marketing outfit, we always use keyword phrases as names and posted links in the comment section. Our success was less than 1% (about the same as offline junk mail) - even using automated search software.

Now that I'm working for myself and run a legit web business, I use my real name or that of my client or their business if it branded or has a keyword in it.

Then I only put the link in the profile. However, to attract attention, I do a mega-comment and write a mini blog post about the topic.

Sometimes I play devil's advocate. Some bloggers love to come out to play and prove me wrong, while others get pissy because the comment wasn't a "You Go go Girl" pat on the back.

But mega-commenting is NOT something they ignore. A big fat comment really stands out from the rest.

Commenting on blogs dont really count as a
    backlink.

Most links on comments are nofollow links.

There are however blogs that has dofollow links.

You just gotta google for them.

    Hope that helps.

This is true...but if you want to use it to generate direct traffic, this is a different thing. It really doesn't matter then if the link is do-follow or not.

Getting a comment approved on a high traffic blog AND the blogger counter-commenting will bring some visibility to your site by PEOPLE reading those blogs.

And people coming by is what we all want, isn't it?

So using comments to bring in direct traffic still does work. Which was my point.

You should put your web address in the URL field. On a high traffic blog if you leave a relevant, thoughtful comment you will get traffic from it.

You can give the URL on the field left for it. It will be considered as a backlink. Even in the commenting section also considered as a backlink, but if the moderator can think you as a SPAM or even he doesn't wanted your hyperlinks in the commenting section. So it is better to give your site URL in the place provided for it.

I think you have to blog comment as it was intended. Put your website URL where it should go and genuinely comment on the content of the post. IMHO the only time you should start linking in your actual text is when it's relevant and helpful to the content.

When it comes to blog commenting I think it shouldn't really be about the back link but about the community. A little like a traffic network flowing between blogs and not directed by Google.

Blog commenting is a great way to get a link back to your site and improve traffic. Most blogs have a specific tab for placing website url and you should place it there. You should also concentrate on posting high quality comments which add value to the blog post rather than ones done specifically to get a link back to your site.

Bloggers love this stuff. A nice juicy comment encourages others to chime in, too. Try this experiment, it won't kill you: Post one mega-comment a day on an appropriate blog. It'll take you, what, five or ten minutes. Do this every day for a month, then analyze your traffic stats to see where your comment was most effective.

Well said, mega comments always get good reputations and traffic. I always post comments on 2- 3 lines basis, but i totally agree with what you have said. Thanks

Place it in the box for the website URL. Your name will automatically link to the URL. If you add it to the comment box some blog owners will not approve your comment. Just make sure your comment is not spammy and your comment is related to the original blog post.

Do what other bloggers are doing. In every blog, there is specific place for giving url, put your url there. But only putting url will not bring traffic. To attract traffic to your site, your comment need to be informative and valuable to others. Only this can attract others and increase your traffic.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but I can't get blog commenting to "work".

For the last 3-4 weeks I have been finding related blogs, skimming through the blogs real quick (just to get a feel of whats being debated), writing a 2-3 sentence response, drop my link in website box, and thats it.

I targeted both high ranking and low ranking blogs but anytime I check my backlinks, it seems like google isn't finding them (or they're not even being approved). I was told you don't ping blog comments so what am I missing?

Are all these people just not accepting my comments? Should I NOT be targeting hi ranking blogs that are much higher ranked than me?

My site is ranked pr3, so will I have a problem linking to pr4 blogs?

I even tried linking to lots of pr na relevant blogs and for some reason my backlink count never seems to go up.

Do you guys actually RECORD every single blog you drop a link in? Then go back later and check if you link stuck? I can't get over how labor intensive backlinking actually is if you have to repeatedly try commenting on the same blogs, checking, rechecking, etc to make sure your links stick. That is a major PITA but if thats what I need to do I don't have a problem with it.

Its the only thing I can think of that might be the problem. I do know however when I stick to forum posts, profiles, social media etc that my links tend to show quick, but on blogs it seems not one has shown and I must have done at least 500 so far.

    What am I doing wrong?!

I haven't seen an example of your blog comment but I can assume some issues that you might having-

      * Your comments are not meeting the quality guidelines of the blog owner, that is why your comments are not getting approved,
      * You may be commenting in dead blogs. Dead blog means the blog which has not been updated for a long time,
      * You may be using keywords in the name field during making comments,
      * Your IP may have been marked as spam

You can do following to get rid of those problems-
      * Read the whole post very carefully. Writing 2-3 sentences comment does not mean that your comment will get approved. Make a relevant comment and always try to ask a question in your comment. It increases the chance to get the comment approved.
      * Before commenting in a blog, have a look at the recent post of that blog. If the recent post have got the recent date, you may comment on that blog. Also, have a quick look over the blog if it have got approved comments. If you do not see any comment posted in any older or newer posts, this blog may not approve any comments. Avoid this kind of blogs too.
      * Using keyword in the name field is may be a reason behind your comments no being approved. Would you like other people to comment in your blog with a keyword in name field? Think like that. Be a real person when posting comments.
      * Rotate your email addresses frequently. If possible, use IP changing software.

I hope all these tips will help you.

Some other great tips to ensure you get noticed and your comment published are:

Go get yourself a gravatar account and add a real image of yourself which will show you are a real person.

Always read the post, then add a relevant comment, even if this is in disagreement to the post in question.

Add your website to the website field, do not take the liberty of adding extra html or links as they will be deleted in most cases.

Finally, look to build a database of go to blogs within your niche that publishes your comments and visit them often and get interacting, as you will become recognized and also receive traffic from the sites you interact with!

Do not worry about dofollow or nofollow, just be natural and add your links. I know on my blog you get all links dofollow after a certain amount of approved comments.
